Deontay Wilder KO #29

 HAS DEONTAY WILDER ARRIVED?

Indio, CA– Unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KOs) flattened Sergei Liakhovich (25-6, 16 KOs) in forty three seconds in a mismatch on paper turned out to be just that. The time had come for Wilder to step up his level of opposition.

NEEDS GUYS THAT’LL FIGHT BACK

Rumors have been swirling that Deontay will face the winner of the September 6th Chris Arreola-Seth Mitchell fight. This would be a step up for Wilder, who has yet to answer any real questions about his chin. If he continues to blast out opponents like he did here, he may never need to answer those questions.

FRANCISCO VARGAS HAS PEOPLE WATCHING

On the undercard, Mexican Olympian Francisco Vargas (17-0-1, 13 KOs) defeated Brandon Bennett (15-1, 7 KOs) by unanimous decision and picked up the vacant NABF and WBO Intercontinental 130 lb. belts in the process. Bennett started well and won the first round on my card, but not many, if any, others. Vargas punished Bennett’s body throughout en route to a comfortable win.

TALENTED CHARLO STOPS SMITH AT 154 LBS.

Jermall Charlo (15-0, 11 KOs) stopped Antwone Smith (23-5-1, 12 KO) in the second round of their junior middleweight contest. Smith rose on wobbly legs after being dropped by an overhand right from the Houston native and the fight was waived off. Charlo continues to make noise and looks to be developing into a serious contender.
