TIMES WHEN A MAN HAS TO ASK ABOUT HIMSELF?
San Francisco, CA– There have been many times in the past quarter century or so when I had to ask myself the following: Stay quiet and get paid, or shout out about injustice? What was really painful is that I saw that boxing people in power, like Dan Rafael, then of USA Today and now the big man at ESPN.com, was ignoring the plight of Phoenix, AZ trainer Joe Diaz and ex-champ “Yory Boy” Campas, to this I was both perplexed and pissed off. You see, I would find out that people like “Little Dan,” they don’t give a **** about a fighter if he is in conflict with the boxing establishment.
CAMPAS WAS FISTIC EQUIVALENT TO BORDER TOWN WHORE!
No, Dan was more concerned with being able to sleep in the Top Rank offices in Las Vegas. For if the rotund one had even read the documents Diaz had sent him, he would have realized that “Yory Boy” (Ramon) Campas had been “turned out” by a Top Rank front man in the currently on trial for screwing Campas out of $5K, Phoenix, AZ promoter Peter McKinn. In this instance, the biggest writer in boxing was both blind and mute.
$43 MILLION CLAIM AGAINST STATE & $10,000 WORTH OF URINE!
For those of you that don’t know, there are Fax’s and checks, a plethora of evidence illustrating how Campas was conspired against by both Top Rank and his Mexican promoter/manager Guillermo Mayan. In one instance, on Top Rank checks, Mayan got over $200,000 for one fight, while the fighter Campas got $41,000. And then there was the $10,000 Top Rank took out of a Campas purse for a urine test!
DETAILED STORY FORTHCOMING THURSDAY
Seeing the claim/suit is 80+ pages, I want to fully comprehend the documents before adding my opinion and experience in this matter to print. Remember when certain people were sleeping on Bob Arum’s couches, there was one reporter who went to the bank in Arizona, confirmed that McKinn had never had $5K in the account on which the Campas check was drawn, and was detained in suit and tie by Police in front of the Arizona Capital building, this after McKinn phoned in a “fake” robbery report from his cell phone.
LAST LAUGH SYNDROME TO APPLY!
With world renowned attorney Edward Moriarity and associates now handling the legal matters of Campas and trainer Joe Diaz, it looks as if all the hard work and sacrifice Diaz has put forth is going to pay off. Not the easiest guy to befriend, the sometimes repugnant Diaz and the “possibly” not so innocent Campas, they appear to be headed towards millions as suing Arizona is the only the first of many stones that Gerry Spence and company are poised to drop. Thursday, we will bring you the meat of the suit/claim!
