ROY JONES & THE ISSUE OF STEROIDS!

San Francisco, CA– Both Roy Jones and opponent Richard Hall failed Drug tests post fight in 2000 in the state of Indiana, Roy said it was an over the counter drug from GNC. The Indiana Commission said it was a “steroid.” The same can be said I’m told of Mr. Hall. His defeating Johnny “Louise” Ruiz UD 12 in 2004 was probably his peak. From that point forward, it’s been down hill, sometimes face down for Roy who got an undeserved decision over Antonio Tarver. In the rematch, Tarver knocked Roy the **** out in two rounds. Then came the one-punch KO by Glen Johnson which was followed another loss to Tarver. At this point and time, Jones could have retired, and everybody who knows anything or cares about him, they would have told him to quit.

FOUND OUT “GENTLEMAN JOE” NOT SUCH A GENTLEMAN

Instead he continued and in 2008 lost by wide scores to Joe Calzaghe. The Welshman retired after this fight at 45-0. Getting two wins over Omar Sheika and Jeff lacy weren’t enough to restart the Roy Jones fan club, a bunch of writers that thought like Roy that he was God. Then came his last three fights, a KO1 by Danny Green, UD 12 loss to Bernard Hopkins and a “sick” KO loss in his fight in May against Lebedev.

LAST JONES FIGHT HAD UGLIEST OF ENDINGS!

When I say sick, if you do see the last punch a helpless Roy took, this when referee Steve Smoger refused to step in and Roy was hit standing. Essentially, he was knocked out on his feet until a clean punch was thrown when he impersonating a boxing mime in that he wasn’t speaking or moving. Frozen in midair and referee Smoger enjoying his in ring seat, allowed Roy to take so clean a shot in a concussed mode already. It was so scary that I thought to myself, the residual effects of all this brain trauma, should Roy Jones even be fighting at 42?

FACING GUY NEXT WEEK WHO LOST OF 5 OF 6 WITH ONE DRAW

OK, Max Alexander (14-5-2, 2, yes 2 KOs) and Roy will face one another on December 11. The emotional baggage Roy has carried from the bitter Olympic games I know has been heavy. Remember, with a possible $5 to $7 million purse or more being dangled in front of him if he had gone to Germany and fought WBO champ Darius Michalczewski, who had 23 defenses of the WBO trinket, in addition to once holding (and never losing) the IBF diadem as well. Roy could’ve named his price and did it, but having never gotten over Korea, he balked at his biggest ever payday in a fight he would have most likely won anyway.

THIS ISN’T PING PONG MY FRIENDS, PEOPLE GET HURT

Nobody great ever got out of this game without getting hurt. Not Muhammad Ali, Ray Leonard, Joe Louis, Oscar De La Hoya, Evander Holyfield, and certainly not Roy Jones. If he keeps this up he’s setting himself up for pugilistic dementia, an ailment that affect boxers (punch drunk syndrome) later in life. Sometimes you see it early, sometimes late, sometimes never. Others like Jake LaMotta and Micky Ward, George Chuvalo, those three could take a licking, keep on ticking, and are still talking clearly today. But they are the exception and not the rule! Hey Roy, can you relate?

YEAH, SMOGER WAS ENJOYING THE FIGHT

Even though Steve Smoger, once a New jersey Judge who was bounced form the bench and deemed as I paraphrase by the state, “Not honest enough to be a judge anymore.” But even had Smoger stepped in when he should have, Roy Jones still took a beating. Beatings are what Roy’s all about now, he takes them. I’m sure he’ll beat this Max Alexander stiff, but that’ll put him in further peril. Roy Jones has been knocked out four times in the ring, two of his last three, at least once in the gym prior to the Olympics, Roy has been KO’d five times. I think if an NFL quarterback suffered five concussions, he would have likely retired.

LEGACY RIDDLED WITH BULLETS NOW

Roy Jones Picture Worth 1,000 Words!

Instead of being one of the great fighters of the late 20th century, Roy Jones will be remembered for his KO losses and his staying around way too long. We may some this in a few years, maybe ten, but this ass whippings are going to come back and haunt Roy Jones. As for those who back his decision to not fight Darius Michalczewski in Germany, that looks hypocritical seeing Roy has been KO’d in the former USSR and Australia in two of his last three fights for little reward compared to the millions he would have reaped had he met Michalczewski.

STORY OF THE ROY JONES PICTURE REVEALED!

The reason why I thought the Jones photograph is so “telling” is that it features a young Roy Jones looking over the shoulder of an old, almost elderly looking Roy Jones.
