Jorge Solis (130), Guadalajara, Mexico TKO 6 Francisco Cordero (130), Barranquilla, Colombia. Solis (40-2-2, 29 KOs) demolishes previously unbeaten Cordero (23-1, 15 KOs) by flooring him in rounds one and four before the massacre was waved off in round six. Time was 1:46.
WBO BELT CHANGES HANDS IN UPSET
Glasgow, Scotland– Ricky Burns (129.9), Coatbridge, Scotland UD 12 Roman Martinez (128.8), Vega Baja, Puerto Rico (WBO 130 lb. title) Scottish hero Burns (29-2, 7 KOs) in shocking manner took the title from previously unbeaten Martinez (24-1-1, 15 KOs). Martinez floored Burns in round one with a right but Burns was up and he hurt Martinez with an uppercut in round three. Both fighters rocked each other in the fifth and Martinez went wobbling back to his corner. Burns was hurt again in round seven. Martinez continued to land the harder shots over the next few rounds. The twelfth had Burns coming on strong, staggering Martinez. Scores were 115-112 twice and 115-113.
STURM CONTINUES WINNING WAYS
Koln, Germany– Felix Sturm (158.9), Cologne, Germany UD 12 Giovanni Lorenzo (158), New York, NY. (WBA “Super” 160 lb. title) Sturm (34-2-1, 14 KOs) won a relatively easy decision over Lorenzo (29-3, 21 KOs). After two rounds, Sturm shook off the ring rust after a fourteen month layoff and went to work. Sturm dictated the fight with his jab from third round on. Lorenzo tried a comeback late, but Sturm prevailed 117-111 and 118-111 twice.
Ljubljana, Slovenia– Jan Zaveck (145.9), Magdeburg, Germany MD 12 Rafeal Jackiewicz, (146.8), Minsk Mazowiecki, Poland. (IBF 147 lbs title) Zaveck (30-1, 17 KOs) defends with a close decision over Jackiewicz (36-9-1, 18 KOs). Jan finished strong to avenge his only previous loss to Jackiewicz. Scores were 117-111 twice and 114-114.
Buenos Aires, Argentina– Luis Lazarte (N/A), Buenos Aires, Argentina UD 12 Nerys Espinoza (N/A), Managua, Nicaragua. (IBF 108 lbs title)
Lazarte (48-9-1, 18 KOs) retained his title against now three time world title challenger Espinoza (29-6-1, 20 KOs). All three scores were 116-111. The bout was fought at A crowd pleasing pace. Lazarate dominated the twelfth round with right hand leads, while Espinoza was deducted a point for hitting on the break.

JIMMY B’S “LABOR DAZE” CARD WAS PACKED!
Lincoln, RI– Jonathan Vasquez (142 lbs), New Bedford, MA TKO 1 Shawn Pyles (136 lbs), Danville, VA
Vasquez (2-0, 2 KOs) overwhelms the woeful Pyles (0-2) knocking him down twice in under ninety seconds. Official time was 1:27 of round one. A gross mismatch.
Jesse Barboza (231), Hyannis, MA UD 4 Anthony Robertson (216), Myrtle Beach, SC. Barboza (4-1, 3 KOs) picked up the pace after starting out a little slow against a surprisingly game Robertson (0-2). A tired Robertson came out in the last round was able to go the full four. Scores were 39-37 and 40-36 twice.
Dustin Reinhold (154), Fall River, MA UD 4 Rameil Shelton (153 lbs), Pawtucket, RI. Reinhold (3-1, 2 KOs) and pro debuting Shelton (0-1) engaged in a spirited no clinch battle. A visibly exhausted Shelton showed heart in finishing on his feet but lost by scores by scores of 40-36 and 39-37 twice.
Eric Estrada (198 lbs), Providence, RI TKO 1 Tauheed Wheeler (213 lbs), Washington, D.C. Estrada (2-0, 2 KO) completely destroys the out of shape and flabby Wheeler (0-2). After about a minute of unanswered punches this massacre was over at 2:40 of the first round.
Joe Gardner (169 lbs), Woonsocket, RI UD 6 Eric Pinaretta (170), New Bedford, MA. Gardner (6-1-1, 1 KO) showed superior boxing skills and accuracy against the aggressive but wild punching Pinaretta (2-5, 2 KOs). Scores of 60-54 and 59-55 twice were read.
Vladine Biosse (168 lbs), Providence, RI UD 8 Ibahiem King (166), West Palm Beach, FL. Both Biosse (8-0, 4 KOs) and King (7-5, 2 KOs) wasted little time feeling each other out, setting a fast pace at the opening bell. While Biosse’s flurries were successful, King held his own at times. King’s shot came in the fourth when Biosse went down, however he got up and hurt King in the fifth. It was all Biosse in the sixth as King went down twice. The seventh and eighth saw both fighters holding their own. In the end the cards went to Biosse and the were 77-73 twice and 77-72.
