PRETTY GOOD WEEKEND OF NETWORK TV BOXING

Porter Attacks Broner

Porter Attacks Broner

San Francisco, CA– Twas’ an eventful weekend of professional boxing presented by Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions as “Big Al” had fights on both the NBC & CBS TV Networks.

NBC CARD FURTHER EXPOSED BRONER

From the first round on, Adrien Broner was afraid to exchange with Shawn Porter, instead hugging the eventual Unanimous Decision winner as if he were contemplating “an alternative” lifestyle. Round after round, referee Tony Weeks allowed Broner to hold, until finally taking a point in round 11.

BRONER NOT A “THREAT” ANYMORE

Broner, again fighting for a place near the top of the 147 lb. weight class is simply too small to fight at welterweight. He looks chubby, fat is a better term, as it appears that the Broner who fought at 135, just ate himself out of contention.

ADRIEN “SHUTOUT” SAID ONE JUDGE

One jurist, Eric Cheek saw the fight 118-108, this even though Broner scored a 12th round knockdown over Porter who was ahead 115-111 (Dave Moretti) and 114-112 ( Adelaide Byrd) toi move his pro ledger to 26-1-1, 18 whacks! Broner declines to 30-2, 22 KOs.

BEST FIGHTER OF WEEKEND IS SPENCE JR?

Spence (r) Outclasses Le Grego

Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) took out last minute Canadian-Italian Phil Le Grego (26-2, 14 KOs) punctuated with a knockdown in round three. This fight at 152 lbs. was put together at the last minute as Robert Garcia was no where near the weight limit.

CBS TV MAIN EVENT & UNBEATEN RANCES

Cuban exile Rances Barthelemy pitched a shutout Sunday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as he Vasquez Jabbing Omotoso[/caption]remained unbeaten with a convincing 99-89 rout of Antonio DeMarco (31-5-1, 23 KOs).

CUBAN IN CONTROL FROM START TO FINISH

A left hand dropped De Marco, a former IBF 140 lb. guy, in round four, this before Barthelemy (23-0, 13 KOs) lost a point for low blows in round nine. While it was the CBS main event, it was more like “sparring” for the superior Cuban who has fought at 130, 135 and now 140 in three straight outings.

C0-FEATURE GOES THE DISTANCE TOO!

Sammy Vasquez (18-0, 13 KOs) of Pittsburgh, PA controlled matters from the get-go Omotoso’s offense simply being first and throwing more blows. A “chin check” right hand in the ninth seemed to validate Sammy’s chin as his opponent Wale Omotoso (25-2, 21 KOs), thought to be a “good” puncher landed flush.

EIGHTH ROUND THE “HIGHLIGHT” STANZA!

Ultimately, Vasquez’s quantitative offense proved to be too voluminous as Vasquez won a unanimous decision 98-92 after ten rounds on all three scoresheets.
