CYBORG WINS AS PREDICTED

San Jose, CACris Cyborg Santos (8-1, 6 KOs) TKO 1 Gina Carano (7-1, 3 KOs, 1 SUB) Cyborg was just too strong for Carano; and ended up getting the TKO victory right at the bell to end the first round. Ms. Cyborg becomes the first 145 lbs. women’s Strikeforce champion. Carano had her moments and landed her fair share of good shots, but Cyborg simply walked through them.

Gegard Mousasi (26-2-1, 15 KOs, 9 SUBs) KO 1 Renato Babalu Sobral (35-9 5 KOs, 18 SUBs) Mousasi wasted little time in disposing Babalu Sobral in just 1 minute via strikes. He was able to ground Babalu quickly and rained down strikes knocking Babalu silly. Mousasi not only makes a successful Strikeforce and U.S. debut, but snatched the Strikeforce light heavyweight (205) title.

Gilbert Melendez (16-2, 10 KOs, 1 SUB) TKO 3 Mitsuhiro Ishida (18-6-1, 3 KOs, 2 SUBs) Melendez gained revenge against the first man to defeat him in his MMA career. Melendez basically dominated the entire fight and the ref was forced to step in as Melendez pounded out Ishida on the ground with unanswered strikes. Melendez retains his interim lightweight title.

Fabricio Werdum (12-4-1, 4 KOs, 6 SUBs) SUB 1 Mike Kyle (12-7-1, 8 KOs, 2 SUBs) Werdum made quick work of Kyle catching him in a Guillotine on the ground that forced Kyle to tap. Werdum was impressive and may be a potential first opponent for Strikeforce’s newest commodity, Fedor Emelianenko (30-1, 7 KOs, 16 SUBs).
