Erik Morales & Genaro Hernandez make hospital visit
ONLY IN AMERICA DO MEDICAL BILLS KILL PEOPLE
Los Angeles, CA– Last weekends “Ring Talk Worldwide” radio show (live Sunday’s at 6:05 PT) with featured guest and former 130 pound world champion Gernaro “Chicanito” Hernandez (38-2-1, 17 KOs) got me thinking. Years after the end of his boxing career, Hernandez a very respectable champion and true gentleman, was diagnosed with Cancer. Although he made a good living as a boxer, he had NO medical insurance, relying on his wife’s medical insurance that isn’t substantial enough to fully cover the costs of his treatments. That’s right, like so many Americans, they wouldn’t give Genaro any, this before his savings were decimated by medical bills.
THE CASE OF CASEY GUERRERO
Casey Guerrero
Two-time champion Robert Guererro’s wife Casey, stricken with cancer, she too had no medical insurance. I lived in Canada before coming to California. In Canada, we never worried about medical problems. And as is the case with people in Europe, they don’t go into Bankruptcy, as did well over 900,000 Americans in 2009 simply because they got sick. It is the #1 cause of Bankruptcy in the United States. As a Californian, who works full time, I can’t afford heath care for myself! Imagine if I had a family?
“BEWARE OF THE MEDICAL INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX”
The entire “medicine for huge profit” industry has taken over this country, they, as a whole, raised some premiums more than 20% this year. Genaro Hernandez, Casey Guererro, they are too clear illustrations of what a radio talk show host meant when he said, “Beware of the Medical Industrial Complex.”
WITH MEDICAL, HOUSING & FOOD, WHAT’S LEFT?
To make matters worse the overall economy suffers as a whole. When many families have to spend almost 3/4 of their income on living expenses and medical bills, how much do they have left over to put into the economy as consumers? Very little! By the way, the gap between the U.S. rich and the poor in 2010 is the widest it has ever been since 1776. If people can’t see that this trend has lead to the decline, if not the imminent death of the middle class, they’re either deaf, dumb, blind or just plain don’t give a damn! Heath care is a right everywhere in the modern world but the United States.
