HBO WENT AFTER DARK WITH TITLE TIFF AND…

Atlantic City, NJRico Ramos, (122), Pico Rivera, CA KO 7 Akifumi Shimoda, (121.5 lbs), Tokyo, Japan. (WBA 122 lb title) Ramos (20-0, 11 KOs) takes the title decisively by taking out the relatively unknown Shimoda (23-3-1, 10 KOs).  Time was 2:46.  Shimoda was in control until being hit by a single devastating left hook.

…AND PAUL WILLIAMS GETS YET ANOTHER GIFT

Paul Williams, (153.5), Aiken, SC MD 12 Erislandy Lara, (153), Miami, FL. Williams (40-1, 27 KOs) although being beaten to the punch for most of the night and basically just throwing arm punches against the more powerful and accurate puncher Lara (14-1-1, 10 KOs), “Lucky Paul” got the questionable nod.  Again Williams threw more and landed less then Lara, yet Williams was given the majority decision with scores of 114-114, 115-114, and 116-114. In the minds of many fans, Lara was flat out robbed of a win!
