(IBF 118 lb. title) In an all action fight the champion Yonnhy Perez (20-0-1, 14 KOs) and 2004 Olympian Abner Mares (20-0-1, 13 KOs) battled to an exciting twelve round draw as both fighters left it all in the ring. Midway through the battle Perez began to impose his will but Mares was stronger down the stretch. Scores were 115-113 for Mares and 114-114 twice.

MARQUEZ RETIRES (HOPEFULLY) VAZQUEZ

Rafael Marquez, 125.25, Mexico City, Mexico TKO 3 Israel Vazquez, 125.5, Huntington Park, CA. Marquez (39-5, 35 KOs) made it all even at 2-2 with a third round TKO over familiar foe Vazquez (44-5, 33 KOs). Vazquez cut by over the left eye by a punch seconds into the fight. Marquez was sharp and the blood flowed heavily from Vazquez’ cut by the end of the second round. Marquez continued his vicious assault, knocking down Vazquez and stopping him at 1:33 of the third.
