AT STRIKEFORCE HOUSTON KING MO IS NO MO!

Las Vegas, NVRafael “Feijao” Cavalcante, 205 lbs, Sao Paulo, Brazil TKO 3 Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, 205, Carlsbad, CA.  After a cautious first round, things got going in the second for Lawal as Feijao (10-2, 9 KOs, 1 SUBs) looked as if he may already be showing signs of fatigue.  Lawal (7-1, 5 KOs) blasted away with body shots throughout the second stanza, slowing down the Brazilian.  However, all this changed quickly in the third, as Feijao landed a pair of beautiful knees in the clinch to the head of the champion, following up with a sweeping right hand and relentless strikes on the ground.  Lawal tried to hang on to a leg and survive but eventually fell limp as referee John McCarthy stepped in and waived off the bout.

EX-WWE CHAMP LASHLEY THRASHED

Chad Griggs, 235, Tucson, AZ TKO 2 Bobby Lashley, 265, Junction City, KS.  For the first time in his MMA career, Bobby Lashley saw his own blood-and he didn’t like it.  From the moment Lashley (5-1, 2 KOs, 2 SUBs) was cut it seemed to go down hill for the pro wrestling alum as he looked flustered and fatigued.  Just as the bell sounded to end the second round referee Jon Schorle called a halt to the bout as Lashley stumbled about after Griggs (9-1, 8 KOs, 1 SUB) hammered him with several strikes.  It looks as if Lashley will have to take a long look in the mirror and decide if this is really what he wants to do after folding under the pressure in a fight he was supposed to win.

AND THE NEW MIDDLEWEIGHT (185) CHAMP IS

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, 185, Amazonas, Brazil UD 5 Tim Kennedy, 185, Fort Bragg, NC. In what was a good, solid five round bout, the judges had it for the Brazilian Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (13-2, 10 SUBs). Although Kennedy (12-3, 5 KOs, 6 SUBs) was able to land more overall strikes as well as score takedowns along the way, it seemed that Jacare landed the much more meaningful blows throughout. Jacare has become a better all around MMA practitioner and his striking game has vastly improved.

CURTAIN RAISER WAS AT LIGHTWEIGHT (155)

K.J. Noons, 155, San Diego, CA TKO 2 Jorge Gurgel, 155, Cincinnati, OH. Although Gurgel (13-7, 9 SUBs) had success in some spots on his feet, it became clear rather quickly that he wasn’t going to be able to hang with the hands of K.J. Noons (10-2, 8 KOs). The beginning of the end for this bout came when Noons unintentionally landed a vicious left hook after the bell to end the first round all but knocking Gurgel out. As Gurgel stumbled back to the corner it was apparent he wasn’t in any shape to continue the bout. Regardless, as the second round began, Noons finished the job; measuring his man until landing a vicious right followed by a left hook that put Gurgel down. The fight was stopped seconds later as Noons peppered away at Gurgel while he was on the ground and landing a solid knee (that appeared illegal but went uncalled) that halted the bout.
