NON-FIGHT IS IN NEWS AGAIN

Floyd Mayweather- Manny Pacquiao In 2015?

Floyd Mayweather- Manny Pacquiao In 2015?

New York, NY– The hype train has picked up some steam again and it’s that time of year to hope and pray for amicable negotiations between Floyd Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) and his former promoter’s (Bob Arum) prized superstar, Emmanuel Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs). But just like four years ago, don’t hold your breath.

MIFFED MASSES CAN’T SEE FOREST FOR THE TREES

Since it’s impossible to know what’s really going on behind the scenes, all the fans and media have to rely on are persistent rumors and sound bites. But these things can only offer up parts of the truth and ultimately will leave most up to imagination. This is where indignant opinions and heated debates are sparked from the embers of an overdue fire that continuously burns out.

ARUM KEEPS PEOPLE HANGING ON

Bob Arum

Bob Arum

Anyone privy to Pacquiao’s promoter, Arum and his blurts about the obstacles facing a potential mega bout assume that Floyd Mayweather is simply full of excuses and never wanted to face Pacquiao. But is that based on evidence, or is it Arum painting an eloquent picture? Could it be, that Arum has simply designed a narrative to keep Manny as a valuable commodity within his own stable of fighters and a loss to Floyd is equivalent to letting the cat out of the bag.

MASSA’ BOB KEEPS PAC ON SHORT LEASH

Manny Pacquiao is Bob Arums most valuable commodity, he’s marketable, like able and has become a real people’s champion in his native Philippines and other parts of the world. This is certainly not a commodity Arum wishes to lose and like any savvy business man, he’s keeping him and the money close. In boxing, it is only at the point when a commodity loses its value.

NOBODY AT TOP RANK READY FOR TOP SLOT

Although Manny’s star power has dimmed in recent years, he is still by far the biggest name under the Top Rank promotional banner. Arum’s insisted over the years that his guy is capable of defeating Floyd Jr. But instead of doing all he could to make the fight, it appears that Bob has simply leveraged Mayweather’s alleged fear to boost the status of the superstar Pinoy.

HATE, JEALOUSY & POWER REIGN

Let’s be completely honest. If Floyd Mayweather at any point in his career faced Chris Algieri, even Tim Bradley or Brandon Rios, he’d likely be labeled a cherry picker who is taking soft touches vs. guys who couldn’t punch (Algieri & Bradley) or simply aren’t skilled enough to compete on an elite level (Rios). Bouncing Algieri around like a ball wasn’t all that the Pac fans made it out to be.

FLOYD BEING SCARED IS PURE BULL SPIT

As its been reported, Floyd Mayweather un-retired shortly after Manny Pacquiao defeated a weight drained version of Oscar De La Hoya in a ‘dream bout’ that essentially catapulted Manny Pacquiao into superstardom. It appeared that after a tuneup with Juan Manuel Marquez, Floyd was poised to negotiate a bout with Pacquiao. Manny demanded millions if Floyd exceded 147. Floyd agreed and tendered his request for expanded Drug Testing for Manny and himself, but Arum and Manny balked and headed to Texas to face Arum’s proverbial 6th man Joshua Clottey.

CLOTTEY FOUGHT LIKE HE WAS HANDCUFFED

Unfortunately, Clottey appeared happy to simply show up for a payday and disappear shortly after. Somehow this reality morphed into Mayweather’s fears of Pacquiao, losing his ‘0’, taking unprecedented punishment, etc. But who was chasing who? Who walked away? It wasn’t Mayweather, it was Pacquiao…and of course Arum.

MAY STARTED NEGOTIATIONS & MANNY HALTED THEM

Although Mayweather’s person to person telephone offer of $40 million was a start, surely he knew that Manny being an employee of Top Rank would still need to get approval from his ‘boss’ to accept the terms of any offer. Still, thinking back wasn’t that more money than Manny has ever made in his entire career by far? No reported counter offer and Manny faced another Top Rank fighter Timothy Bradley. Ultimately Manny lost a disputed decision in a bout Bradley himself requested testing for. So why throw Floyd a counter offer if testing was now a non issue?

FLOYD PAINTED AS THE DUCKER

So let’s see. Has Manny ever demanded that Arum make this fight? Has Manny ever expressed that he would like to fight Floyd, in the manner Roberto Duran did Ray Leonard? Has he ever called him out after a fight? Or does he just respond to questions. Now that Floyd has called Manny out on Showtime, shouldn’t it be easy to finalize negotiations given Manny is wiling to fight for free, take less money and to do any testing Floyd wants? Isn’t it easier than ever to call Floyd’s bluff?

LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURES FOLKS!

The answers to these questions should lead to a better understanding about what’s really going on. If not we can just throw away all the aforementioned evidence or lack thereof and assume that Floyd is cornered and has no where else to hide. Kind of like it was when he faced Shane Mosley. But ultimately we know how that turned out. Now we’re talking about Pacquiao with 5 losses, 3 via stoppage. What makes this guy any different?
