ATOP BOXING WORLD ALMOST 50 YEARS

Ali, Rachman Ali, Bob Arum

San Francisco, CA– When you look at big time boxing for the past 40+ years, there was always the presence of promoter Bob Arum and his Top Rank promotional firm.

ARUM WAS “A KENNEDY MAN”

Bob began working for the Justice Dept. and Attorney General Robert Kennedy in 1960. After the assassination of President Kennedy, Arum told me that President Johnson wanted his own team of US Attorneys. Said Arum, “I was a Kennedy man.”

CLOSED CIRCUIT TV NUMBERS BLOW BOB’S MIND

During his Justice Dept. tenure, Arum was assigned to look over the monies brought in by a Sonny Liston-Floyd Patterson fight. Blown away by the numbers, Bob was bitten by both boxing and the bucks.

PRESTIGIOUS RECIPIENT HARVARD CUM LAUDE

Now 82, Arum graduated from Harvard Law School at the very top of his class in 1958. Instead of joining a private firm, three years later Bob was working for Robert Kennedy.

TOO MANY “MEGA-FIGHTS” TO COUNT

Arum’s resume is impressive in that he has remained on top for so long. And while Arum’s firm has been the center of controversy over the years a number of times, this is not what the Wall Of Fame is about. A member of the International & World Boxing Hall of Fame’s, Arum, like him or not, Bob deserves a place.
