KEY TO WINNING FIGHTS EXPLOITING WEAKNESS
San Francisco, CA– What can you a say about Bermane Stiverne that hasn’t already been said here? Well, the technical flaws that he displays are there to be exploited, especially by a taller guy as he shoots that jab from almost the groin area. In case you didn’t catch our post fight article, Stiverne beat Chris Arreola Saturday for the WBC heavyweight title.
JAB KING LARRY HOLMES WAS A TAD IMPRESSED
Larry Holmes on “Ring Talk Boxing” Sunday on the Sports Byline Broadcast Network, said Bermane could fight Wladimir Klitschko and possibly beat him. Holmes, “He’s got to keep his hands up. He throws that jab from too low. I know I used to hold it low, but not that low. I think Stiverne-Klitschko might be a good fight.”
BASIC PHYSICS LESSON NEEDED FOR SOME
The fastest way from the fist to the target is on a straight line. He has to go up and then out with the left jab. Later on I’ll refer to the late maestro of trainers Eddie Futch regarding flaws.
KLITSCHKO THROWS WAY HARDER THAN ARREOLA
You’re just not going to be able to pull that crap on Klitschko, who at 6’7, the Stivrene jab will have ever more distance to travel from A to B. Most of you look at a fight differently than I do because as a former fighter myself, I look for ways to beat all the top guys and apply it in writing. It’s not rocket science, it’s about breaking down the fighter.
BEAT BOTH STIVERNE & STEVENSON WITH DITTO STYLE
I’m going to bring linear light heavyweight (175 lb.) champion Adonis Stevenson into the mix here as he too starts a jab from below his waist. You can look at films of these guys and see these inadequacies. Exploiting a flaw in a fighter is what can often propel you into a fight with lots of zeros preceded by that all so mighty $.
NOT PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL YET
Some compare Bermane (Ber-min) to Ike Ibeabuchi who was such a talent that he might have been able to beat, at least the early version of the Klitschko bros, but he went bonkers, refused to pay a Las Vegas hooker and held her against the clock…I mean her will. If you hear the International broadcast of the Ibeabuchi-David Tua battle of the undefeated, that was me calling it solo with the blessing of the late promoter and inventor of what we know now as Pay Per View Dan Duva, one of the greatest fights in heavyweight history.
HOW DID EDDIE FUTCH PUT IT?
The Hall of Fame trainer who dropped a ruffian in the parking lot at Caesars Palace with a singular left hook in his 70s, Alexis Arguello told me has the “best mind” among trainers. Futch said in regards to Stiverne and fighters like him. “Sometime the flaws have been there so long they become almost inherent. You train and train to not exhibit the flaw, but when things get rough they don’t think and revert back to their bad habits.” Bermane, nice win but you need to step up your game.
