SPIDERMAN BOXED FROM 112 LBS. TO HEAVYWEIGHT

San Francisco, CA– There is nothing more painful than the day on the calendar that marks the passing of a loved one. That being said, Arlen “Spider” Bynum checked out of his room at the hotel of life two years ago March 25. Not the easiest guy always to get along with, if you didn’t argue with the left leaning Texan, then you weren’t his friend.
LANKY BIG MAN IMPOSING FIGURE TO SOME
While “Spider” could be the nicest and sweetest of men, piss him off and it’s not long before you realize you have shaken a nest of angry hornets. When I last saw him alone, it was a Thursday night at the Hospice. I told Arlen that many people loved him and that he deserved to go out a proud man. “His answer, I’m proud to have had friends like you,” which brought me to tears.
TWO YEARS SANS THE SPIDERMAN’S VENOM
Two turns of the Roman calendar later, wife Charlsie (my Mrs. B) has herself had some serious medical issues to deal with. She told me last week that people still call her and talk about Spider. “I guess he had more friends than I realized.”
SPIDER “DRUGGED” ME IN SPAIN
Writing obituaries about people I know can be emotionally daunting. That being said Spiderman, I’m still hot over the fact you “drugged” me by telling me to inhale a Cuban cigar in Spain just like a joint. I was rendered dizzy and horizontal from one of Fidel’s best for better than 40 minutes.
TO KNOW SPIDER WAS TRULY AN HONOR
In closing, there are some people that die and they bury them. But that’s not the case with the late Arlen Bynum, as widow Charlsie will field many phone calls this week. You see there are people that matter, and then there are people that just don’t. A boxer from 112 to heavyweight, professional referee and judge, a successful Texas attorney for decades, Arlen “Spider” Bynum mattered to a lot of people who will miss him until their day of judgement arrives and they too are forced to vacate your room in the hotel of life!
