Antonio MargaritoCaguas P.R– NO! After what Antonio Margarito (pictured) was caught trying to do vs. Shane Mosley, fight with a ‘plaster of Paris’ blocks already loaded into one hand wrap. A couple of weeks ago the talk was Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KOs) facing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (43-0, 30 KOs) or a rematch with Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs). The bout that got the blessing from promoter Bob Arum was Chavez vs. Cotto. He even stated that Jr. would be a better challenge for Cotto rather then Margarito, he even said that Margarito’s trainer Robert Garcia told him that Margarito should retire and that Margarito eye will never be the same after his fight with Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs) seeing Manny broke his orbital socket bone.

THEY GOT CHAVEZ JR. A PAPER TITLE & NOW WANT PIMP HIS NAME!

Well all of a sudden J.C. Chavez Jr. is not the best challenge for Cotto, instead Margarito is, those were Arum’s words. If Cotto accepts the bout will take place in Cotto’s second home Madison Square Garden where he’s 6-0 fighting in the Garden in December. I think Bob saw what all of us boxing aficionados saw in Chavez, nada, “a made up champion,” saying now that the kid wasn’t ready for Cotto. What I don’t understand is how the kid was ready for a belt but not for real opposition?

MARGARITO SHOULD BE BANNED, REGARDLESS OF “BIG” TEXAS MONEY

Instead they gave a man that should not be fighting another big payday. If you ask me, I think it is likely that he used plaster against Cotto and others. I can already hear some of you screaming, “innocent until proven guilty.” The first fight between Margarito vs. Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28KOs) could be another one to look in too, the kid was never the same after that loss. There are video’s running around in YouTube.com where you can see for yourself and be the judge.

ARUM INSISTED COLLINS JR. GET HIS O BACK AFTER THE RESTO FIGHT

Back in June 1983, in the semi-final of the MSG card topped by Roberto Duran’s stoppage of Davey Moore, a punch-less boxer named Luis Resto (20-8-2, 8 KOs) had the padding taken out of his gloves when he fought Billy Collins Jr. (14-0, 11KOs) and Resto destroyed Collins (Check the Ring Talk “Wall of Shame”) He and trainer Carlos “Panama” Lewis The first “Wall of Shame” inductee ended up going to prison and suspended for life from boxing. Panama Lewis has been involved in so much controversy, one we know is the first fight between Alexis Arguello (77-8, 62KOs)vs. Aaron Pryor (39-1, 35KOs) where Lewis gives Pryor, “the special mix” and Pryor came out and destroyed Arguello in the next round.

LEWIS & RESTO ARE EQUAL TO MARGARITO & CAPETILLO

Those two men never again got a chance to fight or train and went to prison. On the other hand Margarito and trainer Javier Capetillo got a slap on wrist. I agree 100% with what trainer Freddie Roach said about the incident, that he does not believe what Margarito says about not knowing what his trainer was doing when he was wrapping his hand. As an ex-fighter. I know that’s bull ****, and according to the circumvented California Penal Code, they should have gotten a charge of intended assault with a deadly weapon.

COTTO BADLY CRAVES REVENGE

I know Cotto want to prove to himself and the fans that he can beat Margachito fair and square. But Cotto is not the same fighter he was when they met the first time, especially after the “catch weight” smashing at the hands of Pacquiao. Miguel, he left a little of himself in the ring both times and it’ll be hard for him, maybe impossible to be same fighter he was when they first fought. The Puerto Rican WBA 154 lb. champ has more to lose than “The Cheat.” So I hope Cotto doesn’t give him a chance, as there are better fish for him to fry.
