ANDRE IS “THE BEST AT 168″ BAR NONE!
Carson, CA– In the first bout the Super Six World Boxing Classic semifinals, 4-1 favorite and WBA & World super middleweight (168 lbs) champion Andre Ward 24-0, 13 KOs) put a thorough and dominant “Butt” whipping on “King Arthur” Abraham (32-3, 26 KOs) at the Home Deport Center, in Carson, Ca in front of a heavy Armenian crowd that came to support Abraham, an Armenian fighting out of Germany. Glendale, a city within 75 miles of the venue has a heavy Armenian population. So while Ward is the California based fighter, it was like fighting in Abraham’s backyard.
ABRAHAM STRONG AT THE START
The first two rounds Abraham looked to start aggressively, but as the bout went on Ward with his superior technique, skills and will kept the Armenian in his turtle like shell defense landing punches mostly at will. Most of the bout was waged at a distance with Ward scoring shots to the head and body. Judge Stanley Christodoulou scored the bout 120-108, Ingo Barrabas had it 118-110, and James Jen Kin tallied 118-111 all for the defending champion. RingTalk.com’s ringside card read 118-110, with Abraham only winning the second and third rounds. Ward landed 178 of 444 total punches for 41%. After the fight a clearly defeated Abraham stated, “I started well and I thought I did well the first three rounds…I was blocking a lot of his shots. I tried for the knockout, but I couldn’t do it.” After the bout, Ward who has now qualified for the finals of the Super Six World Boxing Classic stated, “I am the type of fighter that makes adjustments. I wish the referee would have let me fight on the inside. Thats the type of fight we trained for.”
