BRONER NOT AN “ELITE” WELTERWEIGHT!
New York, NY– Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KOs) wrote a check his behind couldn’t cash on Saturday night and made himself look foolish in a losing effort against Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KOs ). As one who picked the previously unbeaten Broner to shine in this bout, it was apparent early that his chances were slimming from the opening bell. After being rocked in the first round and dropped in the second, Broner was devoid of answers to allow himself back into the fight. Broner’s lack of development as a fighterled to a devastating defeat, and it’s likely that he will not be the same unless he overhauls his career and attitude towards the sport. LOTS OF SKANKS & SNICKERS BARS
In recent months Adrien has been seen on tape giving (or simulating) oral sex on strippers, having unprotected sex with two women in a threesome, drinking alcohol and putting on weight in between fights, while partying on tour as a rapper. Broner is very young, and has performed relatively well against previous opponents so it appeared that his youth and natural talent would thwart some of the effects of a reckless lifestyle. But it was apparent that these types of activities are destined to catch up with anyone, regard of talent.
ANTICS THE “REAL PROBLEM” WITH BRONER
One thing that noticeably separates Broner from his idol Floyd Mayweather is
his professionalism and seriousness when it comes to applying his craft. Although it is not uncommon for certain fighters to talk shit outside of the ring, inside the ropes it’s always business first. Broner clowned before the bout by jumping in front of Maidana and hurling insults and continued antics during the fight. After already being shaken up and dropped early, Broner found time to simulate humping while Maidana’s back was turned and put far less attention into actually winning the fight.
MAIDANA: THE BEGINING OF THE END?
As mentioned in Saturday night’s telecast, it is very possible that Broner may have had his ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed moment, as he was also embarassed at the hands of Marco Antonio Barrera in 2001. Hamed was clearly broken from the loss to Barrera and never regained the spirit to return to excellence in the ring. Although Broner is likely to return, the kid has been exposed and anyone with power and tenacity will have a great degree of confidence taking on Broner in the future. Broners mental edge as a elite athlete has been shattered, and most pugilists have found it difficult to rebound from a sound beating like Broner experienced.
ADRIEN MIGHT ALREADY BE “LOST CAUSE”
Without intervention, Broner’s career will certainly spiral south especially considering his lack of reflection on why he lost the fight. With the amount of natural talent he possesses this fight may not have been a walk in the park but certainly was winnable. Unhumbled by the loss Broner reportedly is asking for an immediate rematch but also stated “I’m still going to party”, despite the loss. If this attitude remains, Broner will indeed vanish from boxing’s landscape quicker that his opportunity to blossom escaped him in one night.
