“LIMITED” BOXING ACTION LOOKS INTERESTING

Pawel Wolak (left)

New York, NY – In what has been an unusually busy summer for the sport, mainstream action slows down a bit this weekend. However, rest assured fight fans; the limited televised offering of cards isn’t light on the punch.

ESPN LIGHTS THE SPARK

Adhering to the norm, “ESPN Friday Night Fights” kicks off the boxing weekend. Each installment of the decorated series features news, analysis of upcoming bouts, interviews, celebrity guests offering insight into the world of boxing, and competitive scraps. This week’s main event showcases “tough as nails” welterweight (147) contender Pawel Wolak (29-1, 19 KOs) pitted against dangerous veteran brawler Delvin Rodriguez (25-5-2, 14 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round tilt from the Roseland Ballroom in New York, New York, Friday at 9 PM ET on ESPN 2.

NEW BOXING KID ON THE BLOCK

Going into his 30th professional contest this Friday, Pawel Wolak is coming of his most notable win to date; a one sided stoppage against former WBA 154 lb. belt holder Yuri Foreman (W TKO 6). In the affair against Foreman, Wolak showcased  furious relentless aggression which resulted in a barrage of punishment for the often slick foreman. Prior to his biggest accomplishment of notoriety against Yuri, Pawel won eight straight (5 KOs) after suffering his only professional set back to Ishe Smith (L UD 10).

Delvin Rodriguez

FROM HELL AND BACK

Always game competitor Delvin Rodriquez’s streaky career has seen many up and downs, but for us fans, we have been short of entertained. Delvin is an old school pressure instilled fighter who is reminiscent of other maniac combatants such as Arturo Gatti and Jake La Motta. Albeit “D Rod” isn’t nearly as skilled as the aforementioned company, he certainly has the same valiant will to stand and trade at all costs necessary to win. However by going 2-4-2 in his last six bouts, Delvin seems to be headed toward the down side of his career.

SHOBOX JOINT
In his biggest test to date, exciting up and coming super featherweight (128) prospect Diego Magdaleno (19-0, 7 KOs) meets rugged power punching scrapper Alejandro Perez (15-2-1, 10 KOs) over 10 round or less at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Friday at 11 PM ET on SHOWTIME.

JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ IN A NOTHING TUNE UP?

Before his slated third fight with Manny Pacquiao, “Pound for Pound” world elite boxer Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KOs) takes a “tune up” fight against unheralded pug Likar Ramos (24-3, 18 KOs) over 12 proposed rounds from Plaza de Toros in CancunMexico. No US television available, check various Internet feeds for viewing options.
