Las Vegas, NV – Amir Khan, (140 lbs), Lancashire, United Kingdom UD 12  Marcos Maidana, (139 lbs), Buenos Aires, Argentina. WBA champion Khan (24-1, 17 KOs) looked to make to make it an early night against WBA interim titlist Maidana (29-2, 27 KOs) when Khan folded Maidana in two with a crippling body attack at the end of round one, sending him to the canvas.  After more punishment in round two it looked like the end was near, but the stubborn Maidana kept coming. The Argentine’s aggression was not enough to overcome Khan’s speed and movement.  After being deducted a point for throwing an elbow in round five.  Maidana realizing he was behind finally got to Khan in the tenth with vicious uppercuts.  Maidana’s stamina and will had him going for a knockout in round 12 that never came.   Scores were 114-111 twice and 113-112.

Victor Ortiz, (141 lbs), Oxnard, CA D 12 Lamont Peterson, (140 lbs), Memphis, TN

Ortiz (28-2-2, 22 KOs) and Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KOs) were in a give and take battle for ten hard fought rounds.  Peterson had his moments, but Ortiz was the more aggressive and stronger fighter.   Having scored two knockdowns in the final round, I had Ortiz a clear winner at 96-92.  The judges did not with scores of 94-94 twice and 95-93 for Peterson (?).
