PINOY OUTRAGED OVER MANNY & A RUN FOR PRESIDENT?
By Marcelo Ortigoza
Manila, RP– Even some of Manny Pacquiao’s ardent fans frowned on the pronouncement of the newly elected Congressman to run for the presidency of the land. I asked those Muslim vendors selling pirated DVD at the downtown areas in Dagupan City, Philippines on their take on their idol and the presidency as headlined by a local tabloid.
NOT ALL PINOYS HAPPY WITH PACQUIAO
Gee whiz man, I was glad that these simpletons who epitomized the Filipino hoi polloi could distinguish between a great boxer and a political clown. Consummate politician and quintessential veteran-senator Juan Ponce-Enrile said it all when asked by a national daily: “Huwag naman (I hope not). Let’s not devalue the presidency.” After the duke-out with Antonio Margarito I told GMA-7 TV that I nearly fell from my chair when Pacquiao’s presidential ambition landed in the prestigious New York Times.
Despite his presidential announcement, I told the boob-tube company that I was impressed with Manny’s slick foot speed and that he could shame those incorrigible snatchers that proliferate in cities all over the Philippines.
