GOOD NIGHT SWEET PRINCE, ER PUNISHER!
San Francisco, CA– here were a lot of people who thought Paul Williams would win Saturday night. Their script had the 6’3 lanky boxer fighting a disciplined 12 rounds with the much shorter Sergio Martinez, and in turn walk away with the World middleweight (160 lbs) championship. For the first round, that’s what it looked like, Williams out boxing Martinez.
UNPREDICTABLE LIKE JORGE PAEZ IS MARTINEZ
With a style that at best could be described as unorthodox, Martinez unleashed a single left hand in round two that looked like a rifle shot from the Grassy Knoll, this as Williams, concussed and unconscious fell to the floor and didn’t move. There is no merit to the rumor that the referee counted to 344, but he could have!
MARTINEZ TRYING TO MAKE MOVE ON MANNY
The now (46-2-2, 28 KOs) champion is the real deal folks! The convincing win over Kelly Pavlik, the near beheading of the feared (39-2, 27 KOs) Williams, Sergio is beating up guys in their prime, while Manny Pacquiao just played bongos on a “done” Antonio Margarito’s face for 12 fistic frames.
GREAT FOR GAME & WHY!
We need breakout stars, Sergio Martinez is the best thing to come along in a while. He can fight, plays the role of both “heel & face,” meaning people both like him and don’t, which will only build a fan base around the Argentine fighter.
PEOPLE WILL LINE UP FOR PAUL NOW!
Once a guy has been drilled, others, perhaps reluctant to fight a man of Williams height and size, might feel like they have a shot now! Martinez has opened a lot of doors for himself with the win, the same can be said for Paul Williams in losing.
