WHERE DOES ONE START TO PROBE ARIZONA BOXING?
San Francisco, CA– How about the Governor’s office? Having read millions upon millions of words (why the Warren Hearings, they alone consisted of 26 volumes and 4.3 million words) in my lifetime, I really am stumped as to where to begin after reading the 23 page, $43 million claim filed against the state of Arizona and the county of Maricopa by boxer Ramon “Yory Boy” Campas and trainer Joe Diaz.
CHARGES SEEMINGLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DENY
I paid rather close attention to detail and came away with an opinion that John Montano, former head of Arizona’s Boxing Commission, ex-Commissioner and current Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox, they did in fact conspire to ruin “Yory Boy” Campas and trainer/manager Diaz. Why? To protect promoter Peter McKinn.
THERE IS JUST NO GETTING AROUND IT
In the claim filed Monday, attorney Edward Moriarity was spot on when he summed up the acts that Montano and Wilcox are guilty of beyond a shadow of a doubt. Conspiracy:
They say it’s hard to prove unless one person rolls, but not here. Montano and Wilcox, I watched how they worked in tandem to destroy what was left of the then 33-year old Campas, once the IBF 154 lb. champion and his guy Diaz. The paper work given the City Attorney by Mary Rose Wilcox herself, this proves the criminal case for conspiracy, fraud, and defamation.

They used a fraudulent document, a forgery of Joe Diaz’s signature, and a bogus affidavit signed McKinn’s right hand Gabriel Esqueda to suspend him and Campas, and at the same time help Peter McKinn avoid the criminal charges of Fraud, Conspiracy, Grand Theft, Forgery, charges he is NOW set to go on trial for. Esqueda, who threatened my safety one night in Fresno, CA, he turned “informant” and “ratted” out McKinn as he secretly taped him for months.

But what is so important to Diaz and Campas, is that Montano and Wilcox, who herself faxed the document and other items supporting the fraudulent document to the City Attorney to get the charges against McKinn dismissed, never once over the years did they EVER produce the document when Diaz was before the commission. It was good enough to get the case thrown out of criminal court, (who would in time reinstate it) but not to further their case against Diaz, a man who was hurling Molotov cocktails of a verbal nature, both in the press and at commission meetings directly at Montano and Wilcox.
IT ALL STARTED WITH A $5,000 CHECK!
Remember this all started in the spring of 2004 when Peter McKinn, a promoter in Arizona bounced a $5,000 check to Campas. Top Rank needed McKinn as their agent in Arizona because CEO Bob Arum admitted to his bribing then IBF head Bob Lee Sr. with money he ‘washed’ in Europe through booking agent “Huffin’ Stan” Hoffman. Arizona saw my story and poof, Top Rank was unable to promote, thus the need for their low life front man McKinn.
MONTANO TAKES “YORY’S” LICENSE AT THE WEIGH IN!
To show you just how powerful they are and how outright malicious Montano and Wilcox got, on July 8, 2005, at a weigh in for a regional title fight, Montano took away Campas’ license to fight the next day. He did this solely because Joe Diaz was his trainer. On March 6, 2006, a commission meeting was held where Mary Rose and Montano were looking to continue a ban on Campas fighting anywhere in the United States.

‘When I alerted the Administrative Law Judge (that Diaz and I clamored for) presiding over the meeting that Arizona law mandates Wilcox and Montano NOT hold any private deliberations, but that they be in public, they had no choice but to give Campas back his license. By the way, this was the point in the meeting where I snickered and Wilcox had the cops eject me from the building.
BORING MAYBE, BUT IMPORTANT NONE THE LESS
This whole case, the conspiracy, the covering up of evidence that was good enough for one government body, but not another, the forgeries, the banning of Diaz and Campas, this was all done in furtherance of McKinn, a street urchin who Top Rank put in power. Time and again we see instances in the record where Diaz was prohibited from even speaking at commission meetings by Wilcox, then chairperson, and Montano. This is all part of the official record and chronology, their own records that prove their culpability beyond any shadow of a doubt!
“PROTECTED PEOPLE” & THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
I opened this with a “Where do I start?” question and answered the office of the Arizona Governor. Then a Special Aide to then Governor Janet Napolitano (who now heads Dept. of Homeland Security), Earl Wilcox, husband of Mary Rose, walked criminal defendant McKinn into the “chambers” (private office) of Judge Carlos Mendoza and incredibly asked that the jurist drop the charges against McKinn. When Diaz complained out loud about this to Governor Napoitano’s office, she shunned him like a leper in order to protect her aide Earl, who looking to protect his wife Mary Rose, John Montano and McKinn.
