WORLD LOSES GREAT MOM TO MANY
San Francisco, CA– A neighborhood fixture and icon for some 60+ years, Rose Antonelli, the mother of longtime San Francisco Dee Jay Bobby Antonelli, she passed this morning at home around 4 AM after a prolonged battle with Cancer. This was a woman who took the neighborhood kids fishing, to the movies, the circus, you name it and Rose took us there!
One of the funniest things I can remember about Rose was her getting us into see Superfly the movie at the now-defunct Grand Theater on Mission St. circa 1972. She bought us all pizza from the Grand pizza parlor, and then came the Superfly love scene, of which she giggled throughout.
In closing, Rose Antonelli, who retired from Best Foods, this after 30 something years of packaging mayonnaise, was a great woman! And while we all have some faults, one of the original, single parent moms, Rose never faltered in raising her only child Bob.
One of her great satisfactions when we were growing up, was to smoke cigarettes in the darkened house. I lived next door to her, downstairs from Rose, she never once complained about the music or wild parties Bobby and I would throw.
One of her last public appearances, Rose & Bob
Now, there will be one last party for the matriarch of the Antonelli family, Rose Antonelli, at a date to be determined. I will keep you posted. Lastly, Rose was truly a good person, a great mom, whose unselfishness brought a lot of joy to neighborhood kids who were less fortunate. If one of us didn’t have the money to get in to the movie, there was Rose, cantankerous at times, but none the less buying an admission ticket so nobody went without.
Funeral plans are pending.
