HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE REDUCED TO ESPN INTERNET FEED

Frankfurt, GermanyWladimir Klitischko (246.9 lbs),  Kiev, Ukraine TKO 10 Samuel Peter, (241.4), Las Vegas, NV. (WBO, IBF, & IBO heavyweight titles) Klitschko (55-3, 49 KOs) scored a dominating TKO over Peter (34-3, 27 KOs).  Klitschko used his jab effectively from round one, landing a few good right hands.  Klitschko continued to punish Peter as the rounds progressed.  Peter fought with a badly swollen right eye was from the midway point of the bout.  The Nigerian who wasted his “peak” time as a fighter, was never in the fight as Klitschko’s batting practice continued.  Klitschko finally floored Peter with a flurry of punches in round ten and the bout was stopped at the 1:22 mark. Because their ratings are so poor in the US, HBO has passed on fights involving the Klitschko Bros, thus the ESPN feed was the only live US coverage.

HBO FEATURED TWO DECENT SCRAPS

Las Vegas, NVYuriorkis Gamboa (126), Miami, FL UD 12 Orlando Salido (126), Sonora, MX. (WBC/IBF 126 lb. title unification) Gamboa’s (19-0, 15 KOs) victory over Salido (34-11-2, 22 KOs) makes him the unified WBA and IBF titleholder.  The highly regarded Gamboa won most of the rounds but nonetheless had problems with veteran Salido.  Salido who scored a knockdown in round eight, was staggered in round ten.  Gamboa came back and dropped Salido twice in round 12, but was deducted two points for hitting Salido while he was on the canvas.  Scores were 116-109, 114-109, and 115-109.  Salido, was stripped of the title for gaining twelve pounds more than the IBF’s maximum ten pound weight gain rule after a seond 8 AM weigh in on fight day.

PETERSON PULLS A “ANDREW GOLATA” MOVE

Brandon Rios (135), Oxnard, CA WDQ 7 Anthony Peterson (134), Memphis, TN. Rios (25-0-1, 17 KOs) looked impressive against Peterson (30-1, 20 KOs), in getting a seventh round victory by way of disqualification.  Peterson dominated round one, but Rios’ pressure in round two began taking over and the bout became an all out war.  Rios staggering Peterson in round four.  Dropping him with a hard left hand at the end of round five.  Peterson was deducted two points for low blows in round six.  Referee Russell Mora had no choice but to disqualify Peterson for another low blow ending round seven.  All three judges had Rios up 68-62 at the time.

MEXICAN PPV HAD “TERRIBLE ONE” ON TOP

Mexico City, MXErik “El Terrible” Morales (143), San Ysidrio,  CA TKO 6 Willie Limond (143), Glasgow, Scotland. Mexican boxing legend Morales (50-6, 35 KOs) returned to knock out Limond (33-3, 8 KOs) in round six.  Morales shaking off the ring rust early, he came alive by knocking down Limond three times with body shots in round six to end matters at 2:46.  Limond was in control until Morales came to life.

SHO BOX SEES BRIT TOPPLE AMERICAN

London, UKJohn O’Donnell (146.9), London, England UD 12 Terrence Cauthen (147.1, Trenton, NJ
O’Donnell (24-1, 11 KOs) wins a hard fought decision over Cauthen (35-7, 9 KOs).   O’Donnell was the more active with a strong body attack, while veteran Cauthen tried to use his boxing skills.  O’Donnell’s workrate and punching power got him a 118-112 decison from referee Ken Curtis.

HEAVYWEIGHT NAMED TYSON GOES ROUTE

Tyson Fury (261), Manchester, England UD 8 Rich Power (221.5), Keego Harbor, MI. Fury, (12-0, 9 KOs), looked furious as he mercilessly pounded late sub Power, (12-1, 9 KOs).  Referee Jeffrey Hinds, the only judge, scored it a shutout at 80-72.
