Manchester, UK– WBA heavyweight titlist David “The Hayemaker” Haye stopped former world champion America’s John ” The Quiet Man” Ruiz in what was an unexpectedly pleasing fight. Haye scored a knockdown in the opener and had Ruiz hurt on a few occasions. The Brit followed up flurries of shots with rabbit punches and slowly took John out of the fight. To his credit, Ruiz was game and constantly pressured “The Hayemaker,” but with little success. Ruiz’s corner stopped the fight in the ninth as he appeared to be taking too much punishment without much resistance. It was an impressive performance by Haye, as Ruiz was stopped for only the second time in his career. However at 38 it appeared the American’s best days were behind him. Haye, the former cruiserweight (200 lbs) champion moves to 24-1, 22 KOs, and Ruiz, who visibly had gray hair, drops to 44-9-1, 30 KOs.
