NEVADA COMMISSION SO SADLY “OUT OF TOUCH” THEY ARE
Los Angeles, CA- The Nevada State Athletic Commission is not an ally of Stockton, CA’s Nick Diaz (26-9, 2 NC). DISGRACEFUL Following his UFC 183 positive test results for what has been determined time and again to be recommended “Medical Marijuana,” after the group suspended Diaz for five years and fining him $165,000. This was Diaz’ third offense, having previously seen his career-highlight win over Takanori Gomi (35-11, 1 NC) change to a no contest and serving suspensions in 2007 and 2012. Yes, Diaz broke the rules, but why does such a rule exist in the first place?
“KING OF MMA” RONDA ROUSEY WEIGHS IN
“I’m sorry no one asked me anything, but I have to say something. It’s so not right for him to be suspended five years for marijuana. I’m against them even testing for weed at all. It’s not a performance-enhancing drug, it has nothing to do with athletic competition, it’s only tested for political reasons. They say ‘Oh, it’s only for your safety to keep you from hurting yourself because you’re out there.’ Well then, why don’t they test for all the other things that could possibly hurt us that we could be under the influence of while we’re out there?,” said Rousey.
WEED NOT A PED, BUT “EVIL WEED” TO MANY BUREAUCRATS
Marijuana has never been shown to have any positive effects on athletes. One could make the argument that marijuana produces a calming effect that could make a fighter less nervous, but there are plenty of other legal supplements that have the same effects. Diaz’ suspension looks especially bad when compared to that of his opponent for his last fight.
ANDERSON SILVA ONLY SUSPENDED FOR A YEAR
Though it was only his first offense, the fact that Anderson Silva (33-6, 1 NC) was only suspended a year for taking performance-enhancing drugs displays how this is a personal vendetta the NSAC has against the polarizing Diaz. Anderson was fined $380,000 in addition to his suspension, but that was because he tested positive for more than one banned substance.
DIAZ WILL FIGHT THIS
Because a 5-year ban would effectively retire Nick Diaz, he will fight and likely win his case against the NSAC that has ruined careers in the past, boxer Joe Mesi comes to mind. So what appears to be a serious flaw may end up being a blessing in disguise. If the public outcry that has followed this ruling is any indication, we may witness the end of ludicrous ban of marijuana by athletic commissions around the world in the near future.
DIAZ’ MARIJUANA WAS MEDICALLY APPROVED
It doesn’t matter that Diaz has a Medical Marijuana card from a Dr.’s recommendation in California, and Nevada, another state that has LEGAL Medical Marijuana, and they are frying him in the Vegas sun? How hypocritical is that? Didn’t they want to fine Julio Cesar Chavez $500,000 for weed, and then dramatically reduced the fine after promoter Bob Arum, another marijuana user and advocate, threw a fit!
