FORBES SAYS RONDA “MAKES MORE” THAN FLOYD!
Los Angeles, CA– Floyd Mayweather, challenged by Ronda Rousey to a “male vs. female” full contact fight, shot back and said he makes more money than Ronda. She fired back with, “I don’t know if you saw the Floyd thing; he said ‘You make $300 million a night, then you can give me a call.’ I actually did the math and given the numbers of my last fight, I’m actually the highest paid UFC fighter and I’m a woman. And I think I actually make two to three times more than he does per second. So when he learns to read and write, he can text me.”.
UFC MAIN EVENT HAS FLUKE ENDING
It was billed as an exciting matchup between two of the best young featherweights (145 lb.) in the world. While the action certainly was not bad, the fight ended abruptly at 1:39 of the very first round. Max Holloway (14-3) looked to be taking an early advantage over Charles Oliveira (20-5) with his striking before Oliveira crumpled suddenly and was unable to continue. The officially result is listed as “TKO (Esophagus Injury)”, which was a first for me. We did not learn too much about either guy that we did not already know. Holloway is on the rise and Oliveira wilts under pressure.
MAGNY AND COTE WIN ON UNDERCARD
Welterweight (170) Neil Magny (16-4) scored a minor upset over Erick Silva (18-6, 1 NC) in the chief support. Silva has been touted throughout his UFC career, but has so far failed to separate himself from his peers. His UFC record stands at 6-5, though to be fair, it should be 7-4. He was given a dubious disqualification versus Carlo Prater (31-15-1) in what should have been a TKO win. Still, Silva will look to rebuild yet again after losing to Magny by split decision. On the undercard, Patrick Cote (22-9) knocked out Josh Burkman (27-12, 1 NC) at 1:26 of round 3 in front of Cote’s home crowd at the Sasktel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
UFC ALUM MELVIN GUILLARD MAKES BELLATOR DEBUT
Lightweight (155) vet Melvin Guillard (32-12-2, 2 NC) will be fighting for his third organization in 3 years when he takes on Brandon Girtz (12-4) in the main event of Bellator 141 at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA. Gullard is on a bit of a downward slide as of late, but he has a good chance at being victorious in his Bellator debut. One cause for alarm may be the fact that Guillard has been submitted 9 times and Girtz has 8 submissions wins. Should be an interesting main event that has a clear gameplan for either guy. For Gullard, he needs to keep it on the feet, while Girtz should definitely try and turn it into a ground battle.
MAIN EVENT FEATURES BROTHER OF FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMP
Lightweight (155) Patricky Freire (13-6) has not been as successful as his younger brother Patricio Freire (24-2) holds the Bellator featherweight strap, but Patricky is a decent fighter in his own right. He will take on Saad Awad (18-6) in the co-main event. Tune in to a nice card on Friday night on Spike TV.
