Los Angeles, CA– WBA, IBO, and newly crowned WBC interim middleweight champion Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) brutalized Martin Murray (29-2-1, 12 KOs) for just over 10 rounds on Saturday’s installment of HBO World Championship Boxing from the Salle des Étoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Murray landed his own shots at times, but did nothing to deter the relentless pressure of the champion. Golovkin passed his toughest test yet, and rumors have been swirling that he carried Murray to get some rounds in. If you ask me, I think he did start to carry his foe after knocking him down twice in round 4. Gennady had Murray in serious trouble but took his foot off the gas to get some more ring time. After all, his last fight did not even go two full rounds.
COTTO OR JCC JR. NEXT?
Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) won the lineal middleweight championship from a badly faded Sergio Martinez (51-3-2, 28 KOs) who had only had one fight in about 18 months prior to facing Cotto. Knee injuries derailed Martinez’ career, and he was a shell of his former self when he took on the Puerto Rican. Now, Cotto appears unwilling to defend his title against GGG, who expressed interest in a unification match after stopping Murray. Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., however, seems like he may be willing to take on the Kazakhstan bruiser.
WILL JUNIOR SIGN THIS TIME?
Last time there were negotiations between the two fighters, Chavez did not sign on to face Golovkin. Now, Chavez has issued a one million dollar bet that he will knock out Triple G. If they do fight, it will be GGG doing the knocking out, but let’s hope the son of the legend puts his money where his mouth is.
ABRAHAM DEFEATS SMITH AGAIN

WBO super middleweight (168) champion Arthur Abraham (42-4, 28 KO) won his rematch with Paul Smith (35-5, 20 KO) at the O2 World Arena in Kreuzberg, Berlin, Germany. Abraham’s belt is a paper one, but he has bounced back fairly well following a disastrous Super Six World Boxing Classic showing a few years ago. Abraham does not seem to have the pop on his punches that he did at middleweight, but has improved as a boxer overall.
BOXCINO ESPN TOURNAMENT SHOWCASES HEAVIES
Donovan Dennis (10-1, 8 KOs) knocked out Steve Vukosa (10-1, 4 KOs) in the 4th round to advance to the semifinals of the 2015 Boxcino Heavyweight Tournament. Joining him will be Andrey Fedosov (25-4, 20 KOs), Lenroy Thomas (19-3, 9 KOs), and Razvan Conjanu (13-1, 7 KOs). Fedosov will face Thomas and Dennis will face Cojanu to determine the final match of the tournament.
