BREAKDOWN OF UNIQUE SERIES

New York, NY– The competition for an undisputed 168 lb. (super middleweight) king begins with a round robin phase where each of the six participants will fight three times. Fighters are awarded points based on their performance: 3 points for a win by knockout or technical knockout, 2 points for a win on points, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss.

Four of the top scoring combatants from phase one will continue to the semi-finals and the two lowest scorers are eliminated. The highest ranked scorer will compete against the forth ranked while the second ranked will battle against the third ranked. The winners of the semi-finals proceed to the final showdown.

SATURDAY DOUBLE HEADER FROM TWO COUNTRIES

After months of speculation, the highly anticipated super middleweight series of fights has finally arrived. Living up to it’s world championship billing, the first bout of the evening will take place in the United Kingdom and the second in Germany. The fights will air on Showtime’s World Championship Boxing.

UNBEATEN PUGS CLASH IN OPENER

Carl Froch (25-0, 20 K0s) and Andre Dirrell (18-0, 13 KOs) will kick things of at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham, UK in a scheduled 12 rounder for Froch’s WBC belt. In his break out performance against Jermain Taylor, Froch showed tremendous heart and resolve as he recovered from two knockdowns in the second round leading him to a dramatic 12th round knockout win. Against Dirrell, Froch will look to utilize that same hybrid of strength and courage. Lacking experience in big fights, Andre Dirrell is considered to be the tournament’s underdog by most critics. However, the fast combination punching Dirrell has a six knockout win streak and enters the ring a confident fighter in search of a break out performance.

TESTED WARRIORS CLASH IN SECOND BOUT

Arthur Abraham (30-0, 24 KOs) and Jermain Taylor (28-3-1, 17 KOs) will throw hands over 12 round or less at the O2 World Arena in Berlin, Germany. Considering both fighters past, this fight should provide a furious fistic rage as both men know no other way. Even though he suffered a broken jaw at the hands of Edison Miranda, Abraham won a 12 round decision in what was a savage war. After that brutal encounter at middleweight (160) Abraham went on to pulverized his next five opponents all by knockout, including a rematch with Miranda. Since then, Abraham has cleaned out his division going perfect in four fights and now makes his move to the super middleweight division. After defeating Bernard Hopkins twice on points, former middleweight champion Taylor went on to defend his crown in three successful defenses before running into Kelly Pavlik. Taylor fared well in the early rounds against Pavlik knocking him down three times in the round two, however as the fight went to the later rounds, Taylor grew tired and suffered a devastating knockout loss and later lost on points in a rematch. Jermain then moved up in weight to face Carl Froch in a potential 2009 fight of the year candidate and administered a terrible beating. In round 12 Taylor hit the canvas after a barrage of right hands. Knowing further punishment was inevitable, as hopeless as it may have seemed, Taylor got up and tried to finish the fight prompting the referee to stop the match. In closing, Showtime is the place to be this weekend for fight fans!
