ALEXANDER NOT AT KHAN’S LEVEL
Amir Khan (30-3, 19 KOs) UD 12 Devon Alexander (26-3, 14 KOs). Although nobody went down or was seriously hurt, Amir boxed circles around Alexander in what was an easily predictable outcome. Khan now readies for an all UK battle with IBF welterweight (147 lb.) guy Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KOs) in mid 2015 in the biggest fights possibly in British history. Scores: 119-109 twice & 120-108.
THURMAN DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE GOODS
Keith Thurman (24-0, 21 KOs) UD 12 Leonard Bundu (31-1-2, 11 KOs). It looked like it might end early as Thurman dropped the 40-year-old 30 seconds in with a left hook. After that he ran a lot. Scores were 120-107 three times. (WBA 147 lb. title) Expert says, running like shoplifter chased by security guard makes Stock drop with win. It was the most boring shutout in recent memory
ORTIZ SNAGS FIRST WIN IN AGES
Victor Ortiz (30-5-1, 22 KOs) TKO 3 Manuel Perez (22-1-1, 4KOs) (147) Rout of game but vastly overmatched foe puts Ortiz in winner’s circle for first time in three years.
MARES TAKES BATTING PRACTICE
Abner Mares (28-1-1, 14 KOs) TKO 5 Jose Ramirez (25-5, 15 KOs). (126) Mares decked Ramirez in rounds one, three & five, before Ramirez’ people halted it after the fifth had ended.
Jermall Charlo (20-0, 14 KOs) KO 3 Lenny Bottai (22-3, 9 KOs). A left hook and it was over :38 into #3.
FAVORED HERRERA DROPS WBA 140 LB. INTERIM BELT
Jose Benavidez (22-0, 15 KOs) UD 12 Mauricio Herrera (21-5, 7KOS) WBA 140 lb. interim title tiff has ringside media taken a tad aback with scores of 116-112 twice & 117-111. Herrera looked good early, Benavidez had some moments later.
EMANUEL STEWARD’S GUY ANDY LEE WINS WBO 160 LB. TITLE
Britain’s Andy Lee (34-2, 23 KOs) TKO 6 Matt Korobov (24-1, 14KOs). Behind after five, Lee rocked the Russian and unleashed a hail of punches that convinced referee Kenny Bayless to stop the contest for the vacant WBO crown. You may remember, Peter Quillin dropped the title rather than fight Korobov who was highly thought of a few years ago. Why would “Kid Chocolate” pull such a move? Isn’t he with Al Heyman? Lee, a Kronk Gym member helped us forget last night’s fight with Kronk guy Jonathan Banks folding to Antonio Tarver like paper mache.
BRADLEY-CHAVES ENDS IN SPLIT DECISION DRAW
Las Vegas, Nevada, Cosmopolitan Hotel– (HBO) Timothy Bradley (31-1-1, 12 KOs) SD 12 Diego Chaves (23-2, 19KOs) (147 lbs.) Lots of missed blows and headbutts (Tim Bradley fight) and at the end Julie Letterman had Chaves 116-112, Burt Clements 115-113 for Bradley, while Craig Metcalfe was even at 114-114.
