NO DOUBTING THE GREATNESS OF GENNADY GOLOVKIN

Gennady Golovkin "Body & Fender" Work

Gennady Golovkin “Body & Fender” Work

San Francisco, CA– Having recently discussed the fact that there are few people left that refuse to fight WBA middleweight (160 lb.) kingpin Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs), let’s look at the middleweight (160 lb.) top 15 of BoxRec.com from GGG on down.

COTTO HAS “REAL” TITLE

WBC & linear champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) is a fighter that might just be undefeated if things were always on the “up & up” in the squared circle of combat. That initial fight with Antonio Margarito will always be suspect seeing he was caught trying to load his gloves with plaster of Paris blocks for Shane Mosley. There were also whispers about Manny Pacquiao’s alleged use of vitamins. Still, Cotto doesn’t have a lot left and he is not one to fight “to the death,” for family and faculties comes first. Turning 34 next week, Cotto will fight Canelo Alvarez and likely lose there. His ticket is punched One Way to retirement after the Alvarez encounter.

WBO CHAMP QUILLIN AKA “KID CHOCOLATE

WBO champ Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs) is a good boxer who fought twice in 2013 and once this year with nothing pending. Inactivity can be the kiss of death and here’s 31-year old “Kid Chocolate” fighting less this year than Floyd Mayweather. Quillin will be in Las Vegas next week and I’ll be sure to ask why his face is on the side of milk cartons?

MARTINEZ THE CRIPPLE!

Think back, Sergio Gabriel Martinez (51-3-2, 28 KOs) gets in the ring for Cotto fight wearing a steel knee brace on each leg and you knew right there that your bet was dead in the water. Now 38, Sergio should’ve stayed retired after getting in the ring looking like a victim of Polio. He apparently wants to fight again, but after Cotto, who wants to see him?

AN INDICTMENT OF BOXREC.COM RATINGS

Ranking ex-middleweight champ and 2000 Olympic Bronze medalist Jermain Taylor (33-4-1, 20 KOs) next at #5 is an indictment of the BoxRec.com ratings. Sorry guys, but JT has been starched, I mean starched three times in scary knockouts. Jermain is also the guy that paid a hooker $2,500 for Oral Sex. Although I don’t find it even slightly wrong to pay for something you want if you can. But damn Jermain, you jacked up the rate of a blow job in Arkansas and the surrounding states from $20 to $2,500!

STURM IN AT #6

35 year old Felix Sturm (39-4-2, 18 KOs) is going to meet Robert Stieglitz (47-4, 27 KOs) (166 lbs.) on November 8 in Germany. Sturm has decent numbers but he’s breathing a last gasp of career air! If he beats ex-WBO 168 lb. guy Stieglitz, that means little other than fat paychecks for both men. Sturm lost the IBF middleweight diadem to 40-year old Sam Soliman, proving that either styles make fights or Felix be done!

REST OF THE NOT SO STELLAR GROUP

GGG will dust Martin Murray (28-1-1. 12 KOs) next. IBF guy Sam Soliman (44-12, 18 KOs) is a nonentity at 160, regardless of alphabet title. Untested Matt Korobov (24-0, 14 KOs) was once a “can’t miss” prospect. Now, I think he missed the chance. Another GGG victim is Daniel Geale (30-3, 16 KOs). Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam (31-1, 18 KOs) has a nice record but when put to the test at a world ranked level, he lost. Cancer survivor Daniel Jacobs (28-1, 25 KOs) is a nice story. he has ability, but is it championship caliber? David Lemieux (32-2, 30 KOs) can punch, but he doesn’t take too well. UK’s Billy Joe Saunders (20-0, 11 KOs) is too green and limited to contend with GG. Russia’s Dmitry Chudinov (14-0-2, 9 KOs) might be a good foe for GGG for a fight in Russia.

HERE IS THE QUESTION FOR YOU?

Can any of these guys compete with Golovkin? No! Do any of these men have the ability to go 12 rounds with Gennady? NO, thus forget the judges as Golovkin truly is the Sonny Liston of 2015.
