JONES’ “EYE POKES” PISSING DANA WHITE OFF
Los Angeles, CA– UFC light heavyweight (205 lb.) champion Jon Jones (20-1) made easy work of contender Glover Teixeira (22-3) over 5 rounds to retain his belt. Teixeira was never really all that competitive, but did manage to last the distance. Jones controlled the fight but looked a bit gun shy at times and seemed hesitant to take risks.
JONES STILL “SMARTING” FROM GUSTAFSON CLASH?
The much heralded champion took a lot of damage in his fight with Alexander Gustafsson (16-2), and Glover certainly has power, so the combination of the two may have made Jones more tentative than “Bones” Jones is normally. Still, “Double J” was able to get the job done and remains the longest reigning champion in UFC light heavyweight history. The post fight discussion included Dana White acknowledging the fact that Jones’ pokes (fouls) opponents in the eyes with his long fingers.
RETURNING JOHNSON “RUMBLES” TO WIN
In the co-main event, light heavyweight Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (17-4) made a successful return to the UFC by taking a decision from the over the hill and passive Phil Davis (12-2-0-1). It was Johnson’s first fight in the UFC since January 2012.
