GENNADY GOLOVKIN “SUPERSTAR”
San Francisco, CA– Every once in a while fighter comes along that can be easily described as, ”something special.” Gennady Golovkin is a man that can be described that way as he is set to defend the WBA middleweight (160 lb.) title against Curtis Stevens this Saturday night on HBO. In the words of historian Larry “The Lip” Albert, “Gennady Golovkin has the goods.”
STEVENS’ BIG MOUTH GOT HIM FAT PURSE

At 27–0, 24 KOs, Gennady has already cracked the top 10 in the ‘pound for pound’ list. Where you list him is your prerogative, but he has his place. Stevens, 25–3, 18 KOs, too has a place on the list, just not the top 10 pound for pound list, more like the top 10 bigmouth list. That’s what got him the fight with Gennady Golovkin, his having the audacity to call out the unbeaten Russian on television. While Stevens is a good fighter, greatness is not in this future, at least in my opinion.
GOLOVKIN ENGLISH GETTING BETTER
When Gennady Golovkin appeared a fortnight ago on “Ring Talk Worldwide,” my radio show for 29 years, Gennady agreed that the mouth of Stevens is better than that of Stevens the fighter. A man this not afraid to go to the body, Golovkin expects to KO Stevens, with no preference as to whether, “It is a body shot or head shot. He talks good, has a big mouth. He will see come fight time that he talks better than he fights.”
WILL FIGHT MAYWEATHER AT 154
As for Floyd Mayweather, 45–0, 26 KOs, the man that most people, including the modest Golovkin, consider the best fighter pound for pound the world. And by far, as there is seemingly nobody out there that can compete, I didn’t say defeat, nobody out there that could compete with Floyd Mayweather. Enter Gennady Golovkin, who is not afraid of Floyd Mayweather and boldly stated on ring talk that, ” I can drop to 154, sometimes I leave the gym at 154-156. I am not afraid of Floyd Mayweather, and after the Stevens fight I would like to fight Floyd Mayweather, not at 152, but 154.”
FLOYD FEELS NOBODY IS IN HIS LEAGUE!
So with Mayweather claiming to have no challenges, nobody even worthy of sharing, at least on the equal basis, the squared circle with him, somebody brought up Gennady Golovkin. Team Mayweather opined on Golovkin in surprisingly, or jokingly, by saying Gennady “Golovkin hasn’t fought anybody yet. He ain’t done s*it yet.”
BET MAYWEATHER WILL BE WATCHING SATURDAY NIGHT
Now I realize Mayweather is always in the negotiating process, but Floyd, as gifted as you are, Gennady Golovkin is tough, talented and determined. Oh, and did I mention he can punch too? Add that to the fact he will fight you at 154 lbs. makes this the superfight of 2014, Golovkin-Mayweather, does Floyd have the stones to meet boxing’s version of “The Crusher?” If after Saturday night Floyd thinks he can beat Golovkin, it’ll happen. If not, Gennady will be looking at Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. or recognized middleweight kingpin Sergio Martinez.
