The match, (excuse me, “cough cough”) was aired on Telemundo TV as Campas was being “readied” for a shot at then IBF 154 lb. champ Raul Marquez in December.

The following figures on the pay of “Yory Boy” Campas will be available a little later in this on the Top Rank memo you will see in full shortly. (1) July 17, 1997. (2) TELEMUNDO TV (3) Verdell Smith. 4) Purse: $10,0000. (5) Promotional Fee: $2,000. (6) Contract Purse Amount: $3,000.
WHERE DID THE MONEY “DISAPPEAR” TO?
Now what I first find suspicious to the say least is Top Rank Boxing taking a $2,000 Promotional Fee! A Las Vegas manager with some tenure laughed when he/she saw clause #5. “A promotional fee? (laugh, laugh).” OK, from the original $10,000 take away the $2,000 fee, and you have $8,000. From that you pay Campas $3,000, that leaves $5,000 missing and the seemingly onerous $2,000 Promotional Fee. This means that Campas got 30% of his purse, before any taxes, trainer, etc.
SEE THE MONEY & THINK OUT LOUD IF NEED BE
There’s $5,000 (50%) of the “Yory Boy” Campas purse that has simply disappeared! The onerous relationship between the promoter and client beats that of Elvis Presley and Colonel Tom Parker, as Parker got $1 buck for every dollar Elvis received. Either that or some money was slipped across the border to Campas. Ten rounds on TV, $10 grand and he only gets $3,000. If Top Rank has a defense for “Yory” getting only 30% of a purse please email me your side and I’ll be glad to print it.

For the Raul Marquez December 1997 bout the numbers went like this: (1) Sept. 13, 1977. (2) Purse $55.000, yet a figure of $66,000 is penciled and circled in handwriting. I’m inclined to not guess that this handwriting was not written by sender Top Rank President Du beof, but more likely this is Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran’s copy as it appears he was on the phone with Todd after receiving this facsimile (fax) and talking. business. (3) Raul Marquez. (4) IBF jr. middleweight title. (5) Purse: $55,000. (6) Promotional Agreement $11,000.
(7) Contract Purse Amount $15,000. 8) Tax Witholding $5,000.
LOOK AT IRS MEMO BELOW
First up is an Internal Revenue Service letter stating they never received a penny of the tax money Top Rank was taking from “Yory Boy” Campas’ pay from 1996 to 2003. Who then was Top Rank paying with these taxes taking out of Campas check if NOT the IRS? Again, where did the money go Lee Samuels, Top Rank Publicist and mouthpiece, you should answer this by email.
