WAS DIAZ JOBBED BY LAS VEGAS JUDGES?

San Francisco, CA– Although the world of MMA, specifically the UFC, has tried to distance itself from the “controversial” or in some minds “crooked” decisions that mar boxing, trying and accomplishing this has become an issue for the UFC President Dana White. On Saturday night, there were people watching UFC 143 on Pay Per View and live in attendence in Las Vegas that felt Nick Diaz beat Carlos Condit in a five round battle for the interim UFC 170 lb. title. Condit got the call!

UFC’S “KING KYLE” THOUGHT DIAZ WON!

Kyle Kingsbury, a highly rated 205 lb. UFC combatant appeared on a “Special Sunday” edition of “Ring Talk MMA & Boxing.” I don’t want to spoil the show that will be posted right after this, but the scores of 48–47 & 49–46 twice, in Kyle’s mind was off the wall! Condit is now 28-5, while the threatening to retire Diaz, who was beyonf livid and said, “I think that I’m done with this MMA. It’s been great out here, I had a good career. You guys pay me way too much, but I don’t think I’m going to get enough to keep on in this.” Nick declines to 26-8.

“BIG COUNTRY” BEATEN BY BIGGER COUNTRY BRAZIL!

Fabrice Werdum was so awful in his last fight with Alistair Overeem that I thought the UFC should have cut the Jui Jitsu master. Saturday night against Roy “Big Country” Nelson, Werdum displayed stand up skills nobody envisioned he had. He beat Nelson, a slight favorite in every round with punches, a few kicks, but very little ground work. Roy had the submission ending I had in my mind in place when he caught Verdum in a guillotine choke. But the Brazilian escaped his only real moment of peril over three rounds.

FIGHT DID NOT GO THE WAY i THOUGHT!

Nelson, like Werdum is a Black Belt in Jui Jitsu and it appeared Werdum realized it might be a rough go on the floor with Nelson, thus the stand up action that combined punches, kicks and a few knees. Impressive win for Fabrice who is now 14-5-1 while the svelte Roy Nelson dips to 16-6. The scores were 30-27 across the board!

DID KOSHCHECK GET LAS VEGAS GIFT LIKE CONDIT?

Fan favorite Josh Koshcheck took on the unheralded Mike Pierce in a 170 lb. contest. Pierce took the offensive fro the start pinning Josh against the cage. He brought out his entire arsenal, punches, kicks, knees, and in my ind Josh lost the opener 10-9. Round two and three could have went either way and I was anticipating a close win for Pierce or a draw. I’ll have to admit I was a little stunned when Koshcheck, who failed to win the first round.

The second and third rounds were competitive, but Pierce seemed to have the momentum in both stanzas. That being said, Koshcheck got the nod with scores of 29-38 across the board. Although I like Josh, I think he got his Christmas present 10 months early. Koshcheck who failed in two attempts with Georges St. Pierre for the UFC 170 lb. belt moves his record to 17-5, while a disheartened Pierce is now 13-5.

Josh Koscheck (16-5) was featured in a segment as he was leaving a Los Angeles, CA nightclub. His demeanor was like that of the coolest cat on the planet. Although he did get outclassed by St. Pierre, I don’t think his foe this evening Mike Pierce (13-4)
