When I first saw the footage, I was saying finally, it appears that some behind the curtains, a third man will work out a deal for Mayweather-Pacquiao they’ve come to some behind the scenes.” Mayweather said this with the brashness of a fight that he wanted dearly, but now that is called into question. Unless you’ve been hidden under a rug or instintualized, you know that the only boxing match that have the squares are interested, it’s Pacquiao-Mayweather. When I refer to people that are squares, I’m talking about somebody that has either not seen a huge fight, or will be sucked in by the talk around the water cooler and all the promotional hype.

The video of Mayweather denying calling Pacquiao out, stating exactly the following when asked at a later date. “I’ve never said that, i’ve never said that at all. So don’t be putting words in my mouth, the media is good for that.” The author of the video, I entitled it, “Will Floyd Mayweather fight Manny Pacquaio on May 5?” to entice the masses, the author of the video assemblage of direct quotes really named it, “Floyd Mayweather Lied To His Fans.” It appears the latter and not the former applies here.

On or around the time the Don King promotional ship took on water and all but sunk, Bob Arum was the guy with the Cinco De Mayo fight date. Now Mayweather and his advisors, and I believe these are two separated parties, one of which is Leonard Ellerbe, are pulling a Joe Frazier-like move by taking away the second biggest party day/weekend for Hispanics. I mean, Arum and Manny can’t go on the same day. If they did, they’d essentially be slashing their own promotional throat. They can’t afford to do an event and split the audience with Floyd. Have you seen yet that Floyd has just snatched the big psychological all the crap i’ve seen hurled as Arum, in years, my God, he’s slipping and thus allowed the Cinco De Mayo holiday 2012 weekend to get away from him seeing Floyd has the date and the MGM Grand.

This being said, I would think Mayweather has already locked up the hot weekend circa Mexican Independence Day in September 2012 with the MGM Grand, thus he’s backing Arum and Pacquiao into a corner. What do you think Pacquiao is thinking? “How did Floyd steal the Cinco De Mayo day away from Bob (Arum)?” That being said, when does the Top Rank promotional contract of Pacquiao expire? Because if it is and Arum is eliminated, Manny could let the accountants do the work post fight he’d get something close to Mayweather money-wise. If not, Floyd will try and force Manny Pacquiao to fight him May 5. I can hear him already, “I’ve got the date and the arena, take the random drug tests and the fight is on.”

And while I can visualize Mayweather wanting to turn a screw on Arum and make sure that he will make more money than Pacquiao. This status thing with Mayweather, meaning that Floyd has to have the bigger piece of the pie, be announced second, don’t laugh, this will be an issue won by Floyd. He just seems to have the upper hand on Arum and Manny. Essentially what Floyd is saying is you either play my game, or we don’t play. For this kind of money, and I would think Floyd-Pac or Pac-Floyd, will be the first fight with over three million pay per views and break Oscar De La Hoya-Mayweather entanglement of 2007 that hit 2.4 million buys. I can see it with the “squares,” who are classified as such because they would’ve never wanted to watch the match except this is Pac-Floyd, they will push this fight to close to four million buys in the USA alone.
UNDERDOG MARQUEZ COULD DAMPER HOPES OF PAC-FLOYD OR FLOYD PAC
If Mayweather doesn’t try and steal the show in the next week, face it, he wouldn’t be Floyd Mayweather. He will and Manny and Arum will cite, “Irreconcilable Differences” and move on with Pacquiao. Should Pacquiao lose to Marquez this weekend, something I doubt, these two fighters will have squandered away a fortune, personally believe somebody will lose, get hurt or retire, meaning it might never happen. The natural fight for May 5 is Victor Ortiz in a rematch or possibly Saul Alvarez. The Ortiz fight will do far in excess of two million homes. The closest I see these two fighting is possibly in September 2012, unless Manny and Arum roll over, something they must by now realize. All egos aside, and I’ve said this before, egos might prevent it from ever happening.
