FLOYD TO BEGIN TESTIMONY TODAY IN COURT PRECEEDING

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA– Floyd Mayweather Jr. is set to give testimony Friday as a defendant in a defamation lawsuit case filed by Manny Paquiao, according to the Associated Press. It’s no secret to the boxing community that Mayweather, instead of facing Paquiao in the ring in the near future will face the Filipino in court, in a lawsuit over alleged statements in which the 34 year-old Mayweather accused him of using performance enhancing drugs.

DOES FLOYD NEED MONEY?

His lawyer was denied an emergency motion on Thursday, June 16th that would have delayed testifying until after his September 17th return to the ring against WBC welterweight(147lb) champion Victor Ortiz(29-2-2, 22 KOs). Unfortunately it appears the only fight that fans will get between the pound for pound superstars in the near future will be in a courtroom and not a boxing ring.

DOES MONEY MAYWEATHER NEED MONEY?

Mayweather’s life has been in a downward spiral since his one-sided victory over Shane “Shame” Mosley (46-7-1,39 KOs) last May. From his reported problems with the IRS, to various court cases; the aforementioned defamation suit, numerous felony counts in a domestic violence case involving the mother of his children or “baby mama”, among other cases, Floyd’s in a deep pile of you know what!

DE LA HOYA AND RICHARD SCHAEFER ORIGINALLY PART OF DEFAMATION SUIT

Oscar De La Hoya and partner Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions were also named in the original lawsuit, along with Floyd’s uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather and his father Floyd Sr.. Schaefer and De La Hoya have since apologized and settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. It appears that considering Paquiao has never tested positive for performance enhancing drugs (been tested numerous times by the Nevada State Athletic Commission) and it appears that since Manny’s image has been tarnished in the court of public opinion, Floyd has a tough mountain to climb.

MAYWEATHER’S LAWYERS MAY BE THE ONLY ONES WITH “MONEY” ONCE THIS IS ALL OVER

Floyd, the most elusive prizefighter in the game, isn’t so elusive when it comes to legal trouble. 40 million dollars is what he’ll reportedly earn against Ortiz. It appears he’ll need every penny!

FLOYD HAD A VALID POINT WITH OLYMPIC STYLE RANDOM TESTING

Floyd should be commended for bringing up the idea of implementing random drug testing. It is common knowledge that a lot of athletes in professional sports are cheating and that the current testing is inadequate at detecting a number of illicit performance enhancing drugs. They are still testing fighters for Marijuana for god’s sake!  However his immature rants, and alleged allegations of Paquiao’s use of performance enhancing drugs has put a stain on the sport. The animosity, that will remain if and or when Paquiao wins the lawsuit will further put a roadblock in this fight ever coming to fruition.
