STRIKEFORCE CHAMP WANTS FEDOR EMELIANENKO
St. Louis, MO– Alistair Overeem 260, Amsterdam, Netherlands TKO 1 Brett Rogers, 265, St. Paul, MN. Overeem (33-11. 13 KOs, 19 SUBs) completely outclassed and dominated Rogers (10-2, 9 KOs, 1 SUB) in just under four minutes. Rogers looked like a complete fish out of water against the highly experienced Overeem. To give you an idea of the dominance displayed; Overeem out struck Rogers 54-1. Simply put, this was an amateur vs. a professional. The aforementioned Fedor Emelianenko, a once beaten Icon of MMA, he faces Fabrice Werdum in San Jose, CA on June 26.
ARLOVSKI & SILVA GO THE ROUTE
Antonio Silva, 265, Brasilia, Brazil UD 3 Andrei Arlovski, 240, Minsk, Belarus. Expecting Arlovski (15-8, 11 KOs, 3 SUBs) to walk away with an easy win here, I couldn’t have been more wrong. In fact just the opposite transpired as Silva (14-2, 9 KOs, 3 SUBs) was able to out strike Arlovski all night long. Silva looked very impressive and he is certainly a heavyweight to be taken seriously. As for Arlovski, he has now lost three consecutive bouts and will have to take once again re-evaluate his career.
MMA MIDDLEWEIGHTS ARE 185 LBS!
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, 185, Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil UD 3 Joey Villasenor, 185, Albuquerque, NM. In a fight where both guys had several opportunities to take advantage of their given strengths, neither guy did! Souza (12-2, 10 SUBs) did not look like the highly decorated submission specialist that he is; as he constantly lost dominate positions on the ground and could not secure a submission. Villasenor (27-7, 12 KOs, 10 SUBs) had many opportunities later in the fight to use his superior boxing skill as Souza appeared to be tiring, but failed to capitalize. In the end it was Souza’s ability to control the fight, effectively utilize strikes and secure takedowns that made the difference.
NEW GRACIE BEATS UFC JOURNEYMAN
Roger Gracie, 220, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil SUB 2 Kevin Randleman, 205, Columbus, OH. From the minute Kevin Randleman (17-15, 5 KOs, 4 SUBs) came to the cage he looked pumped up and ready to rumble. Once the bell rang however, he did absolutely nothing other than look old and inept. Gracie (3-0, 3 SUBs) took his time and eventually caught Randleman with a knee in the second round to get it to the ground and eventually secured a rear naked choke putting the battle worn Randleman to sleep.
UFC’S ANDERSON SILVA IN THE CORNER
Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante, 205, Sao Paulo, Brazil KO 1 Antwain Britt, 205, Virginia Beach, VA. The Brazilian used patience to set up the finishing blows against the tough and powerful Britt (11-4, 9 KOs). Cavalcante (9-2, 8 KOs, 1 SUB) had UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva (26-4, 15 KOs, 4 SUBs) in his corner to further develop his striking skills and it certainly seemed to pay off.
