DILLASHAW STILL KING, RONDA “HIT” IN RIO
Hayward, CA– Last week I wrote about my love for Brazilian Mixed Martial Artists. At the same time it was pointed out that the country that once “owned” the UFC is a much lesser force today in MMA. That pattern continued Saturday when TJ Dillashaw beat the man he took the UFC 135 lb. (bantamweight) title from Renan Barao, this a tad quicker!
REMATCHES RARELY DIFFER FROM FIRST BOUT
The “rule” that applies in most fights is that the “guy that wins the first time, usually wins the second” as was the case with Dillashaw-Barao II, only “easier.” Dillashaw upped his record to 12-2, while Barao (33-3-1) loses the second time since his professional debut, both to the Team Alpha Male member of Sacramento, CA. The ending of the complete dismantling came via TKO with punches at :35 of round four. Last year, the Brazilian lasted into round five.
IMPROVED DILLASHAW JUST TOO DARN FAST FOR RENAN
After besting Barao in early 2014, the first scheduled rematch was scratched when the Brazilian fainted upon rising from a seated position about ten days prior. Last minute guy Joe Soto, a MMA minor leaguer stepped in and Dillashaw sort of took it easy on him.
WHY FABER TOOK “IFFY FIGHT” WITH FRANKIE EDGAR?
Team Alpha Male member Urijah Faber and Dillashaw both hail from the Sacramento, CA area and had Faber not lost to the BIGGER ex-lightweight (155) king Frankie Edgar several weeks ago in the Philippines, they could have done a near Superbowl-like stadium crowd in Northern California. It has been implied that the UFC (see Dana White) prodded Urijah into a fight he in all likelihood the “California Kid” was NOT going to win.
CAIN VELASQUEZ “LOST” BETWEEN ROUNDS
The lack of Oxygen and getting rattled by Fabrice Verdum had Cain Velasquez in such a state of confusion and had NO IDEA where he was between rounds. Disrespecting Mother Nature or the 8,000 foot altitude of Mexico City and Verdum as well, Cain got beaten much like he had done twice to Junior Dos Santos. In other words, a career ending fight. Look for Cain to “hurt” some people in his march back to a title tiff.
ROUSEY WELL RECEIVED UPON LANDING IN RIO
With UFC 190 on Saturday, unbeaten UFC female bantamweight (135) champion Ronda Rousey touched down in Rio De Janeiro Tuesday and got the “Rock Star” treatment as the airport crowd went bonkers. Beth Correia, the Brazilian challenger for Rousey, a -$1600 favorite over the +$900 underdog fighting at home. I have it 10-1 she doesn’t get out of the first round.
“STITCH” DURAN TALKS OF UFC UNION FOR FIGHTERS
In case you have been under a rock, UFC czar Dana White, the sometimes bombastic face of the UFC, has pissed off enough people that revolution UFC’s parent company Zuffa Sports can visualize a future sans White. Five years ago, Dana wasn’t expendable, while today he is.
CLASS ACTION SUIT MEANS “ALL UFC FIGHTERS” SUE DANA, ET AL
Although ex-UFC guys Nate Quarry, Kyle Kingsbury and Cung Le are the “name” Plaintiffs, this is a Class Action Suit meaning ALL of the UFC fighters are Plaintiffs.
