IS SHANE MOSLEY #1 AT WELTERWEIGHT?
San Francisco, CA– As Shane Mosley awaits the winner of the Miguel Cotto-Manny Pacquiao encounter, the current WBA welterweight (147 lbs) champion is in an enviable slot. Having licked Antonio Marga-cheato easier than a postage stamp in January, Mosley is really the #1 guy at 147, this even though Cotto beat him on points. Reason #1 & 1a, Cotto was hammered by Marga-cheato and the scoring of the 2007 fight might have left something to be desired. Reason #2, Shane beat Margarito like he was a dust mop!
WE JUST NEED TO LET IT GO
People will always hurl the steroid use at Mosley, but that was a while back and if Oscar De La Hoya, whom Mosley beat while “juiced” doesn’t take issue with it, then why should we? Having watched Mosley from the crib to the big stage, I have always thought that, and I predicted this in a 1993 TV telecast from the then Inglewood Forum, that he was a great fighter in the making that was destined to become world champion.
HAS PROVEN GREATNESS POST BALCO
In his last fight, Mosley beat a man in Margarito that Floyd Mayweather ran away from and the $8 million payday promoter Bob Arum was willing tio guarantee him. There’s a reason why Floyd never fought Shane. Reason being it was no slam dunk and Mosley could conceivably beat him. The steroid thing is behind him now folks, you need to just sit back and admire one of the few great fighters of the 90s. Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) will fight once before the end of the year.
