UFC’S BIGGEST STAR SHINES BRIGHT AT STAPLES CENTER
Los Angeles, CA- UFC star “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (11-0) retained her bantamweight (135) belt and took “Alpha” Cat Zingano’s (9-1) zero in the process in the main event of UFC 184. In just 14 seconds, Rousey submitted Zingano with on of her famous armbars. Going in, many picked Zingano to win, but here at Ring Talk, we knew she was no match for the Rowdy one. Rousey and Zingano become the first females to headline a UFC pay-per-view show. With all of the extra eyes on her, Ronda put on perhaps her most impressive performance to date.
ROUSEY IS MUST-SEE TV
You may not realize it, but you are witnessing a special talent. Enjoy Rousey while she is here, as I cannot see her remaining in the fight game for too long. The Olympic judoka has charisma that transcends the appeal of mixed martial arts, and has undoubtedly brought new demographics to the Ultimate Fighting Championships.
WOMEN IN CO-MAIN AS WELL
Former boxer Holly Holm (8-0) kept her MMA zero in tact by winning a split decision over Raquel Pennington (5-5). It was not the greatest performance from Holm, as Pennington was able to bloody her nose and land some nice strikes, but she did enough to win. Due to the thin level of opposition left for Rousey, we may see Holm fight her in the near future. I do not like her chances against one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the UFC.
NASTY SUBMISSION BY ELLENBERGER
Welterweight (170) Josh Koscheck (17-9) was choked so hard he started foaming at the mouth. Jake Ellenberger (30-9) got in the win column again in devastating fashion, but I would personally like to see both guys hang it up.
LATE REPLACEMENT WINS
Alan Jouban (11-3) came in on short notice versus Richard Walsh (8-3) but came out with his hand raised after stopping Walsh with an elbow and punches in just 2:19. In the opening bout of the main card, lightweight Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson (18-3) submitted veteran Gleison Tibau (33-11) in two minutes and thirty-seven seconds.
