AMERICAN FAILED TO WIN A ROUND
LAS VEGAS, NV– Undefeated Chris Algieri’s (20-1, 8 KOs) strategy backfired from the first round on versus WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs). Pacquaio, a multi-division champion, used feints and effective aggression to score six knockdowns, the most significant was a straight left in round 9. The Filipino star didn’t get the stoppage but won a one-sided 12 round decision.

Based on what Chris Algieri stated in the post fight interview, he was hoping to coast early and take it to Manny in the later rounds. Unfortunately with only 8 KOs on his ledger that outlook was ill-advised. The American appeared more intent on defense early in the fight, and as rounds went on he was in a hole on the scorecards. When he decided to open up after a clear deficit, thats when he began to get caught with punches. While some of the knockdowns weren’t severe, they scored. As the rounds pursued it was somewhat anti-climatic. Algieri possessed heart making to the final bell, but not much else.

So the real question here is will Floyd Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOS) and Manny Pacquaio finally engage in 2015? This bout is long overdue, but till this day there are obstacles to overcome.
Who will promote the fight? What network will it be on? Can both sides come to the proper financial terms? Manny’s impressive win Saturday has once again made this a topic of conversation for those at the watercoolor on Monday. Floyd turns 38 next year and Pacquaio turns 36 next month. The clock is about to run out on this super fight, and in 2015 the fight for the undisputed welterweight crown must happen.
