POLISH FIGHTER LET DOOR TO VICTORY CLOSE

Andrzej Fonfara-Adonis Stevenson

Andrzej Fonfara-Adonis Stevenson

San Francisco, CA– When you are the chosen opponent, a huge underdog fighting in the favorite’s home town, chances are you are not going to be tendered an opportunity to win. But on occasion that rule in boxing goes out the window as it did Saturday night when Andrzej Fonfara, who had been getting his ass kicked round after round and being floored twice, stunned linear light heavyweight (175 lb.) champion Adonis Stevenson (24-1, 21 KOs) with a left before a right hand put him down in round nine.

NO SUPERMAN-LIKE PERFORMANCE IN WIDE POINTS WIN

With Stevenson unsteady, instead of stepping on the gas, Andrzej Fonfara (25-3, 15 KOs) backed off. Afterwards he said he didn’t want to punch himself out and go nuts after the knockdown of the 8-1 favorite. What did the Polish lad from Chicago think, that he was going to win a decision? As it turns out, that was the only round Fonfara won as Stevenson came back in round ten and cruised to a 118-110, 118-110, 116-109 unanimous decision.
