UFC FIGHT NIGHT ON FOX WAS SOLID!
Los Angeles, CA– In the main event of UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva from the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH, welterweight (170 lbs.) Matt Brown (19-11) continued his recent string of knockouts with a TKO over Erick Silva (16-5-0-1) at 2:11 of round three. It was a pretty dominant performance from Brown, who was able to stifle the offense of the explosive Silva throughout. This win moves Brown closer to the crack at the title in a very loaded welterweight division. Silva, who is now 4-4 in the UFC, may be forced to continue his career in another organization.
SEMI-MAIN EVENT ENDS EARLY AS WELL!
In the co-feature, middleweight (185) Costas Phillippou (13-4-1) knocked out Lorenz Larkin (14-3-1) just 3:37 seconds into the very first round. Both men landed some nice shots, but in the end, Phillippou was able to drop Larkin with a hard left hook that sealed the deal. I thought Larkin might just be good enough to best Costas who appeared to be on the way down, but Phillippou proved he has fight left in him.
DARON CRUICKSHANK SHINES UNDERNEATH
On the undercard, lightweight (155) Daron Cruickshank
(14-5) scored an impressive KO 1 at 3:20 over Erik Koch (14-4). The win was considered an upset, but going in it looked like Cruickshank had the power to do the job. Welterweight Neil Magny (10-3) welcomed King of the Cage champion Tim Means (20-6-1) to the UFC with a loss. Means looked to have a vast experience advantage but was unable to take advantage of it.
HEAVYWEIGHTS & FLYWEIGHTS ON FOX CARD TOO!
In a heavyweight (-265) match Soa Paleilei (21-3) stopped Ruan Potts (8-2) in 2:20. It was a lopsided affair from the start, with Paleilei taking Potts down early on and beating him up throughout before the inevitable knockout. This was the 17th KO on Paleilei’s ledger. Previously unbeaten flyweight (125) Luis Smolka (7-1) lost a split decision to Chris Cariaso (17-5) to round out the main card. Cariaso was the more seasoned combatant and it showed.
