“NATURAL BORN KILLER”

San Francisco, CA– There is nothing in boxing quite like a two-fisted assassin that is true to the tag. Somebody who is almost always in a seek & destroy mode while piling up points but always looking for an early ending. One boxer that fits that definition is WBO undefeated light heavyweight (175 lb.) champion Sergey Kovalov.

KOVALOV AN INCREDIBLE TALENT

Then under the father like tutor/trainer Abel Sanchez, I took note of Kovalov and watched him gain experience before leaving for Main Events and a new team. There are some guys that have such great physical and mental attributes that they are natural born killers. Again, this best describes Sergey Kovalov.

WBO KING IS ALWAYS CONVINCING!

Born in Russia, the 30-year old boxing superstar in the making, Sergey turned professional in July 2009 in the boxing hotspot of Greensboro, North Carolina. Stopping in South Carolina before making his way to the west coast, Kovalov, went 9-0 with 7 first round KOs and two in the second. A close Split Decision on the scorecards win over Darnell Boone (who knocked down World 168 lb. king Andre Ward) was rectified with a KO 2 of Boone in a rematch.

LISTEN TO WHAT NATHAN CLEVERLY SAID

When then undefeated ex-WBO king Nathan Cleverly sat down after the opening round with Kovalov he said, “He hits hard.” Downed twice before a TKO 4 ending, I couldn’t recall Cleverly ever being decked prior. The body language of Cleverly from that first break between rounds was so telling. He knew that he was not going to beat Kovalov (23-0-1, 21 KOs) that night without using a club.

KOVALOV-STEVENSON FIGHT NOW DEAD

Most people perceive IBF belt bearer Adonis “Superman” Stevenson of the Kronk Gym in Detroit as the “real” threat for Sergey now. But that was before Stevenson signed with Al Hayman and Showtime with ancient Bernard Hopkins on the Superman menu.

CEDRIC AGNEW THE “SACRIFICIAL LAMB”

The WBO #14 ranked contender is unbeaten (26-0, 13 KOs) whose claim to fame is his besting Yusaf Mack last time out and Zab Judah’s brother Daniel a few years ago. Outside of that, Agnew has 18 guys on his resume that fought him with losing records like 7-32 for example. No disrespect intended, but this fight has mismatch written all over it. Kovalov should execute mercy killing before nine. Although they say never count out an undefeated boxer going into a fight, you can in the case of Cedric Agnew begin counting!
