BRONER TAKING ON TOUGHEST FOE IN MAIDANA
New York, NY– Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner (27-0 22 KOs) will place his newly acquired WBA strap on the line against a solid, hard hitting welterweight (147 lb.) in Argentina’s Marcos ‘El Chino’ Maidana (34-3 31 KOs). Like his fellow countryman Lucas Mattyse, Maidana is known for his heavy hands and toughness in the ring. This is only Broner’s second bout at welterweight, as he’s spent most of his career campaigning at 130 and 135 lbs. After defeating Paulie Malignaggi for his title in June, Broner will Saturday face a real threat to his budding potential from Maidana on Showtime from San Antonio, TX.
MAIDANA’S POWER ONLY BRONER ROADBLOCK TO STARDOM
In his last bout against Malignaggi, Broner gave a solid but less than stellar performance by outpointing the skilled but feather fisted ‘Magic Man.’ Against Maidana, the hope is that he’ll perform better against a less skilled and more stationary target in Maidana. But Maidana’s power is an equalizer and can certainly provide some exciting action, as Broner is not as defensive minded as his idol, Floyd Mayweather and takes shots more often. This bout will certainly clear any doubts about on whether Broner belongs amongst the best at 147 lbs and is also destined to become a huge attraction.
MAIDANA WILL BRING IT BIG TIME!
Marcos Maidana has only 3 loses and none of them were against scrubs. From Devon Alexander to Amir Khan and Andriy Kotelnik, he’s only fallen to the best of competitors. And the fighters he’s defeated include Victor Ortiz, Erik Morales, Jesus Soto Karass and Joseito Lopez. Maidana has established himself as more than a gatekeeper or ‘opponent’ and is certainly deserving of a world title shot. Maidana is going for his second ‘legit’ title in as many weight classes, having won a WBA strap at light welterweight (140 lbs) in 2011.
BRONER’S POWER ONE OF HIS ASSETS
Andrien Broner has some solid opponents on his resume. From Daniel Ponce De Leon to Antonio Demarco and Malignaggi, there are a few definitive victories he’s gained thus far. Although some feel his win against Ponce De Leon was a gift, it’s not uncommon for great fighters to have a controversial decisions early in their careers. Broner appears to have learned from the experience and has added more wrinkles to his repertoire. By defeating Maidana, who is a similar opponent to Ponce De Leon, a pure puncher, he’ll have a chance to erase those demons, sure to be summoned by his detractors.
PICKING BRONER TO LOOK SPECTACULAR
For Broner, the only real concern is his chin. If he can endure a few solid punches from a strong welterweight like Maidana, the sky is literally the limit for this young man. He’ll be able to be matched against the type of challenges that will build his legacy as a potential all time great, in due time. Ideally, he’ll stop Maidana and usher in a new era of dominance. But this is boxing and as much as ‘anyone can get it’, ‘anything can happen.’ I look forward to an entertaining break out bout that will allow Broner to introduce himself to the casual fan and excite the hardcore boxing fan at the same time.
