BATTLE OF “THE JAWS” TONIGHT IN MACAU!
San Francisco, CA– If you sit objectively in the seat in which I do, you, “Never fall in love with a fighter.” Hall of Fame writer Jack Fiske told me he stuck to this code after he found out that Alexis Arguello was less than the angel outside of the ring he was trying to emulate, leave it at that. But the country of the Philippines, they have every right to love their elected Congressman and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao.
NO COUNTRY BACKS A FIGHTER LIKE PINOYS & PACQUIAO
Having watched other fighters raise national pride, Panama with Robert Duran, Nicaragua had the aforementioned Arguello, Britain for just about anybody that gets to the top of the ladder, Puerto Rico in days gone by with Tito Trinidad, Wilfredo Gomez and others, and of course, Mexico with Julio Cesar Chavez and the late Salvador Sanchez, each nation would block almost all business and consider them holidays. Still, there is no comparing any fan-base, be it in size or voice than the Manny Pacquiao fans I refer affectionately as “Pacnuts.” That being said, they are confident that Pacquiao will stop Brandon Rios, and start to regain the luster lost by the “sleep inducing” right hand of Juan Manuel Marquez.
DURAN’S MANAGER WEIGHS IN ON RIOS
One time Roberto Duran co-manager Hector Martinez, who only lost one fight in his life that included two Golden Glove titles, Senor Martinez calls his fellow Mexican-American Brandon Rios, “A ******* bum. Pete, are you crazy? He walks straight forward and will be a perfect opponent for come-backing Manny.” And then he continued, “Unless Manny’s all the way shot.”
COMING BACK FROM BEING PUT TO SLEEP
History tells us that boxers can in are “rare” instances return to the level of prominence that he had prior to going, “night-night.” Stealing a line from the comedian Earthquake, “*** got hit so hard, my TV moved! The referee was counting like 347, 348, man, he was out.” And while Earthquake was referring to Roy Jones Jr., it applies even more to Manny Pacquiao, who has a lot more going on than boxing with a political career.
RIOS NOT AN EASY GUY TO LIKE
Regardless of how you feel about Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KOs), he is in incredible condition. The Californian realizes what the difference is between winning and losing. Although if Manny (54-5-2, 38 KOs) has slipped, and to many the great one has, then whether or not Brandon Rios is less than top ten material is irrelevant and the near 4-1 underdog will step on Manny like a doormat.
SURPRISE ENDING TO STORY
We wonder if Pacquiao can take a punch anymore? Not a big puncher in the mold of a George Foreman, Rios will be punching hard and often. The key to this fight is now how Manny will take, but rather Rios, for if he is to take the Pacquiao power and retaliate, that is the key intangible. KEY to the fight, the jaw of Brandon Rios.
JUST CHARGE FOR THE ONE FIGHT & BE DONE!
I dont want to see an undercard, this undercard period. Note to Bob Arum: Can you just air the main event please? Nobody really wants to see the two-time Chinese Olympic Gold medalist Zou Shiming. He is not a Viagra type fighter, more like Sominex.
