LAST INDEPENDENT U.S. FIGHT MAGAZINE
San Francisco, CA– Having grown up in an era
where on Tuesdays and Saturdays, Jack Fiske gave us his lengthy columns that were in the 80′s known by insiders as the “Bible of Newspaper Boxing.” But not only did I have Fiske with the San Francisco Chronicle, Eddie Muller Sr. was writing daily pieces in the San Francisco Examiner, it’s predecessor The Call, The News, or the News Call Bulletin, where I was taught how to read. Now we have only the Chronicle, who threw the highly rated Fiske out on his ass circa 1993 after 40 years, and then watched the circulation reportedly drop from over one million readers then to 220,000 today.
UNCENSORED BOXING WORLD MAGAZINE HAS GOOD WRITERS & EDITORS
The same cannot be said of other boxing publications, Ring Magazine, the standard bearer to some is now owned by Oscar De La Hoya. And regardless of what spin he puts on this, Oscar’s involvement severs the throat of the Ring’s credibility. With a great group of writers, unpublished interview(s) with Emanuel Steward, a cover feature on Floyd Mayweather,
house historians like Lindy Lindell and an “old school” look with black & white photos and a color cover. Like the magazines of the magazine era, Boxing World, a quarterly publication, delivers.
