Garcia came into the bout with a smart game plan. As usual he gambled and punched with the harder banger in Matthysse. However Garcia’s handspeed, defense and chin appeared to be the difference. Garcia, a native of Philadelphia, tied up Matthysse on the inside effectively, and outboxed the Argentinean from the outside. Matthysse’s eye began to swell in round six and as the bout went on it affected his vision. Garcia capitalized and earned a hard fought victory.
