WHAT IS THE CALIFORNIA COMMISSION WAITING ON?
Sacramento, CA– Why the hell hasn’t the Tim Bradley-Nate Campbell debacle been overturned and ruled a no contest yet? Referee David Mendoza made an obvious and inexcusable mistake by ruling Campbell’s (33-6-1, 25 KOs) cut was from a Bradley (25-0, 12 KOs) punch, when it was obviously from a butt.
NATE LOOKED LIKE HE WANTED OUT?
The commission should have had no problem recognizing the injustice. I am hoping that the commission is simply taking their sweet time and they will correct this wrongdoing. Some people think that Campbell was simply looking for a way out when he proclaimed that he couldn’t see. I disagree. Nate Campbell has always been nothing but a warrior fighting through anything. I believe he was telling the truth and if you watch the tape, it was an extremely nasty head butt that not only caused the cut above the eye, but landed harshly directly on Campbell’s eye. This fight no question should be overturned to a no contest and it would be a crime if it were not.
WHY IS VIDEOTAPE NOT UTILIZED BY BOXING OFFICIALS?
This fight also is an example why there is no reason that there shouldn’t be replays in which the referee can observe the tape. I am not saying that replays should be used every time there is a questionable knockdown, but only at the end of fights in situations like this. After the fight everybody who saw the replay knew that the cut was from the head butt. Even Tim Bradley seemed to acknowledge what really happened. It is unfair for a fighter like Campbell to spend six to eight weeks in training camp and bust his ass throughout his entire career to be given an undeserving L on his record by a referee who is either blind or incompetent.
